I have been climbing for awhile now and a friend of mine (female) who would like to try it out but has recently undergone breast augmentation. Does anyone have any info on climbing with breast implants? Do they get in the way -- do they hurt -- do they hurt your climbing? Thank you -- Honey Bear from California!

Why would anyone who is athletic want big boobs? I have them naturally and being that I am a climber and athletic they can get in the way. Especially running/jogging or even fitting clothes... You don't think of those things do you..? They don't make those cool clothes to girls on the bigger side...

Dear Froggy, I wasn't asking out of rudeness.. I was asking because a GOOD friend of mine would like to TRY rock climbing, but I fear that with recent breast augmentation there would be a risk. She really isn't that big...She is about 34-B from a 33-AA. I am larger than her (naturally) and have no problem climbing. I was just wondering if there were any risks or limits with breat augmentation so I could pass along the info to her. I am sorry -- if I offended you.

I was not affended at all. I just could understand why anyone would want to change themselves especially someone who is athletic. I thought you were thinking of doing it and would urge against it. I don't know the health risks

I don't think there are any significant risks associated with climbing and having a breast augmentation. There are a number of climbers, some professional, who have had this done. Bobbi Bensman being the most prolific. I figure that as long as all the incisions (sp?) are healed properly then there should be no problems.

Okay, without giving away my breast size to all my closest rc.com buddies, it sounds like your friend went from very flat-chested to a reasonable size. 34B is a not so big a size and I would think that it would not cause a problem. I concur about the scars healing, though. Besides, you're not planning on putting her in a chest harness, are you? I think it is really considerate that you took the time to ask this question.

Speaking from strictly a medical point of view: Breasts that have been augmented can be detrimental to the well-being of surrounding climbers due to the desire to attract said augmented female by attempting things that are not within their ability (courting said female is included). This can result from massive injuries and immense trauma. However, from an environmentalist point of view: You are doing a great service to nature by beautifying the surroundings and making the place more aesthetic to the human eye. And B sized cups are not too large to climb with if that's what you were concerned about. If they get to be too large, certain things like squeeze chimneys, and reach throughs may become more difficult. But all that can be overcome through practice. Just stay flexible, lift weights (hypertrophy of the pectoralis muscles can naturally increase the size and lift of the breasts) and be sure to get out to Joshua Tree this winter. We need the distraction. TRADitionally yours, Addiroids P.S. Why do men like ladies with big breasts and tight virginias? Because they have big mouths and small pricks. --Told to me by a female climber and passed on for your amusement.

I was just thinking about naked climbing again. Ouch. On a lighter note, my friend yells to me, "Get your body closer to the rock like I do!" My reply, "I would if I didn't have an extra four inches in front to press!" Men.
