I got $285 dollars worth of gear for christmas and now I finally am able to use it. Tomorrow is the big day. I'm even driving the 45 minutes. My dad was like," You know what happens if you get in an accident. Ill come down hard on you. I may even take your license away." He feaken yells at me before anything happens. I think I just made up a quote. "Any climb you can walk away from is not a good climb". Thats what I'll be doin tomorrow. not walkin. Anyway, its my own gear, and I'm even setting up anchors and crap for the first time. (TR) basically all it is is some water knots around the anchors right? I hope so, cause I'm goin to bed now. Who wants to come?

Just make sure you lay down the law regarding the treatmant of your stuff... I make it known that if someone steps on my rope, they owe me a biner or $5. I learned this rule from a chick that climbs at my gym, but she charges a biner or a beer, and I don't drink. I've gotten 6 biners, and one steak diner out of it. rrrADAM

I'm excited for you rockjock. Last weekend I got to lead (while toproped) for the first time. I used mainly my own pro (complete with newbie shine). Halfway up the route, I weighted a nut and I heard a voice in my head say, "Damn, these things really do work." While climbing the route and do the fake-lead was fun, using my own gear was the most memorable part. I got a warm fuzzy feeling. $285 of gear? yuzabastard. What did you get? - John

Your Dad is alright,it's just hard for parents to BE scared, but he was right,it's all fun 'til somebody gets hurt!So make sure you worry about safety more than you do about gear, remember YOU are now RESPONSIBLE for anyone who climbs on your rigging and your new stuff. So if you can trust our friends to hold your life in they're belay device you should be able to trust them with your gear,if you can't then find other people to climb with, don't look to get a bunch more gear to let them ruin!I wouldn't climb with anyone who would "charge" me for a mishap. Remember your friends cannot be replced at the local sporting goods store so take care of THEM first and foremost and they'll help take of your stuff. Have fun out there! You didn't say who's $285 bucks your climbing on,if it's Dad's money he's got room to gripe. Have you thought of asking your dad to go with ou so he can see that everything is cool for himself, you might find a really great climbing partner, who cares about you and your gear, closer to home than thought! Where you goin'climbin' anyhow?

ahhh yes I remember the days of just getting my own gear. It feels great to use your gear instead of depending on a buddy for gear usage!
