It's wear your watch, and no I wouldn't. Just clip it on a gear loop on your harness. I think it would be better to catch and rip there than catch while on your wrist and possibly mess up some skin.

Personally, I wouldn't want to because the rock will really scratch the heck out of the face. I always forget until I'm a few feet off the ground and the band scratches against something. I try to leave it in the pack if I remember, and if not, I clip it to something.

The funny thing is the actual homonym for "wear" is "where," not "were." Evil people who know how to spell  .

Never wear a watch and you don't have to worry about it! *grin* (And don't were one, either...)

I try not to but I forget a lot. It gets a little scratched up but nothing too bad. So if it's a cheap Timex, I wouldn't worry about it.

i usually remember to take my watch off at the first bomber hand-jam when the watch catches against the rock. thats why i dont wear one. i dont wanna be jamming in some nasty crack and not be able to get the perfect jam because my watch is in the way!

course, i climb on sandstone, which is featured and the jams are pretty deep sometimes. granite wasnt so bad this summer, but i still dont like anything that can catch near my hands. i like my hands...wanna keep 'em and everything! :P

I like to walk around with a working cordellette noose tied around my neck with a bunch of random nuts and tricams tied to it. Do you think I should take this off when I go climbing?

Well Ninja, I'd say if it helps your style go for it!
I really think that the climbing community has to come together on this important issue of fashion on the rocks. Look at baseball, they wear all sorts of beautiful stones and gems all over their bodies while they play! Perhaps it increases performance?
Hmmm, maybe not.
Either way Ninja, I think that it's a great thing to make a statement about what is truly important in your life while you are out in public, especially on the rocks. Of course there might be a slight safety issue if you are wearing various stoppers around your neck...suppose you fall and one gets caught in a crack, that would end your life! Don't hang yourself man, just be careful.
Peace 8)

So I take it my prior post wasn't idiotic enough to be clearly sarcastic? Darn. I'll try harder next time.

Wear what ever the hell you want while climbing. That goes to females too if they love to wear miniskirts.

I use my internal, climbers watch. If it's daylight, then wake up, shake off the hangover, and climb. When it turns dark, then get to the pub.

It works for me...

I regularly wear a watch climbing. I've rarely found it to get in the way, and usually only remove it if I know I'm going to be doing deeper jams. I have a $35 Timex with a velcro band, which will rip off long before doing major harm in a fall. I've had this one for several years, with little damage to the face.

I agree a watch may not be essential for single pitches. When climbing multiple pitches, I can check my pace and the time before sunset. I can do that if I keep it on a gear loop, but I'd worry about losing it and not knowing until the end of the day. Besides, it'd be more difficult to clock my second and give him grief about how long it takes to follow a pitch.
