I just bought everything over the past few months. Here is what I have: 1. 10.2 Dia., 60 meter rope 2. 10 omega quick draws 3. Aertex harness 4. Scarpa shoes 5. ATC and biner (gri gri cost more, but are much more safe) 6. Two cord used to clean the route 7. and a few biners I think these are the things that are really needed. There are other things like a drop cloths, chalk bag, stick clips and etc. that nice to also have.

Is it just me, or are people really silly? For some odd reason I never had to ask anyone what I need to climb. I know what I need, my various appendages and that bump on my neck that some call my head. For all the other crap, I simply OBSERVED others climbing. I noticed all those neat looking shiny things they were using, went out and got my own, and now use them in a similar fashion. Now, can somebody please tell me everything I need to wipe my @ss? Step by step directions are welcome.

It's a troll sonus. No one is THAT retarded. He's just trying to see how many people would actually answer such a ridiculous question. Hell, it's his first post. TROLL!!! Go back under your bridge!!

you might want chalk and a chalk bag and shoes - that's all you need to boulder. You can rent shoes and a harness in a gym, also a chalk bag. bring your own lock and towel. if you like it, you can start by buying shoes and a harness. then maybe a few quickdraws, then a cordelette and locking biners... climb with people who have gear. oh, get an ATC and locking biner to belay outside. that's about it. Nalgene bottle, summit bag, mosquito repellent, poison ivy retardant. Check out a camping/backpacking store or "trading post" (REI is good) for hiking gear - good on long approaches...

I think he may be legit.... Watersprite said everything I would have. Especially the "climb with people that have gear" part. Mooching is the key, throughout your entire climbing carreer this never looses truth. Travis

wet or dry? 10.5 or 11 mm? tell him not to use double ropes... 50 ft ok for TR'ing or not worth buying? if someone has gear, they will probably have a rope. I havent had to buy anything yet. And I am NOT trading on my status as a female. I've come to despise women who use their feminine whiles to get to climb and get gear. that's my guy giving away his junk!!

why did you repeat my post? why not jus reply? I don't even understand what I was talking about there. I'd edit it but now you've got my post posted again. I'm the sherpette, but it's because I've only gotten to second the leader, and I figure they have more expertise, so I do the scrambling, carrying water, etc.

I would add a book like Freedom of the Hills to the list. It describes basic anchors, techniques..... indispensable knowledge. Things can get a little crazy, even when just sport climbing and it is good to have some basics stuffed away in your brain to help you drag yourself out of a situation.

ok, I do know but it relates to boating, not climbing. I wish the bitch would go with someone else, since she has so many men offering her gear. and leave my man alone! sorry (is there a Rant forum?)

I wasn't cruising the beginners forum uscrocker, it's on the main page which is where I found it. And the post was SO generalized that it sounded like a zillion other troll postings of late. I mean good grief, if he's read anything online, in a magazine, a book, gone to a gym, etc he'd know that he at least needs a harness, shoes and atc and wouldn't need to ask us dopey rc.com'ers for that info

No thanks rock_climber, I wouldn't bite you cause you probably don't taste very good. And I'm a vegetarian anyway. Your brazen response right now is far more intense than anything I've done. I assumed such a goofy question (i.e. you can find the answers in a zillion books, online, etc. just google.) had to be the work of a troll, as is 99 pecent of the time true. You don't even know me so you have not earned the right to call me a moron. If you get to know me and then still think I'm a moron, fine. Until then, STFU. That hostile kind of attitude is gonna get you far in finding partners. I didn't tell you to bite me, so please have the courtesy to not do the same.
