Man, El Cap is full of accents! You hear French accents, Spanish accents [I can't tell the Spaniards from the Catalonians from the Basque!] and German accents. There are all these eastern European accents that are really hard to figure out. Even the Merricans have accents - you can tell the climbers from the Gunks with the New York accent, the climbers from the midwest with their strident "a" vowels, and who could miss the climbers from the south. There is even a Hoser accent up there from time to time......

My guess is that Gerby has the record for the most different El Cap wall ascents in one year. Hans Florine probably has the record for most ascents in a year, duplicates included. I think I have the record for the most accents on a wall in one year. Last year, over two trips up El Cap, I did my native Californian, a Kennedyesque Bostonian, a New Yawker, an inbred Billy-Bob Appalachian, a Southern drawl, a laconic Italian, an enervated Frenchman, a toorminating Austrian, and even a few "words" of faux-Chinese gibberish.

CAUTION: Random comment > This reminded me of this show I was watching on the National Geographic Channel, where this kid, his sister and these 2 guys went up Half Dome in under 24 hours making him the youngest ever and her the youngest female ever. And the damn kid says hes gonna try Half Dome AND El Cap in under 24 hours. Is is just me (a non aider, never been to yosemite) or is this BS? I heard that and laughed sarcastically. Fix me if I'm broken.
