my last question has prompted me to ask another? is there anyone out there who has NOT hurt himself climbing? If so, how long have you been climbing? just for kicks I'd like to find out how long a guy has to climb before he has to get hurt statistacly.

I haven't had any disabling injuries... just scratches, bruises, and stuff like that. Never broke anything besides a fingernail. Been climbing seven years.

Also, I think tendon/muscle injuries - or really anything that keeps you off the rock for more than a week or 2 - is considered an injury. A bruise, scrape, minor cut or flapper can't keep the determined off the rock.. Even a mildly sprain ankle isn't going to keep some off a climb. Knock on rock, I haven't been hurt yet from CLIMBING. I hurt my shoulder (rotator cuff maybe?) from doing a door frame pull up, and I couldn't do any climbing for over a month! It been feeling good the last week or 2 :-) So now I'm exercising it by doing easier climbs, or focusing on using the left arm (which is the weaker arm anyways).

Rock Climbing (All types)/My new favorite which is Mountineering has never acutaly injuried me... hiking Mt. Washintion has... but that's not really much of a hike. That's a walk. Althought I have seen the rock slide on saddle trail (That is the Mountineering section of that trail) break someone's leg. This was her first time ever and probably her last. Sadly, If you don't something right on that rock slide something like that or worst could happen. If you've been up that thing you know what I'm talking about.

i've been climbing six years... never "hurt" myself... I water skied twice.. ... and let me tell you the pain of having water go up your ass at 42mph is far worse... than anything i've ever gotten climbing... if you climb by the book your survival rate is much higher «but eventually on a long enough timeline everyones survival rate drops to "0" » go figure

Orseille, who the HECK water skied you at 42 mph??? The only water skier top 35 mph is my father, and he's amazing. I'm pretty good and I don't think I've surpassed 28. When we teach people we start them just around 18 or 20 mph; that's all you need to get someone out of the water and then people are less likely to hurt themselves in a fall. As for injuries, I've been climbing just over a year and the worst that's happened to me are sore finger tendons that kept me off rock for just over a week.
