i just posted a thank you to doniel drazin who is one of the main route developers at echo cliffs and it got me thinking. this is a good chance to identify and thank publically all of the route developers. this activity is not subsidized and usually a route developer pays for all of his hardware him/herself, not to mention donating whatever time it takes to put up the route itself. i'm probably going to miss a few names here so feel free to add them later in the thread, but locally (southern california) i'd like to acknowledge and thank the following people: doniel drazin jack marshall steve edwards grahm doe brent webster troy mayr phil requist bill leventhal matt oliphant john mireles john long joe kristy scott cosgrove todd gordon dave evans chris miller brad singer bob gaines gosh i know there's many more, but i'm drawing a blank. anyhow the intent of this post is for all of you out there to identify and thank those in your area that are responsible for providing you with route options. these people's donations are largely responsible for your enjoyment at the crags. THANK YOU !

matt had his hand in much of the early (and continuing) development at malibu creek state park. he still climbs there regularly. in fact, if you see a strong looking older guy carrying around an empty plastic "bear" say thanks; he may have bolted the route you're getting on next.

Jack has done a great job at NJC. Had the pleasure of meeting him last spring, he showed my friends this new area he had just developed (cliffs of insanity I think he called it). We were one of the first parties to get to climb out there (ahh the shiny new bolts). Really enjoyed the routes he put up. Good thread...there's a lot of people who deserve a lot of credit for the fun we have climbing down here in Socal. Thanks all. Nice to see some positivity going around. :)

Though they are not really known outside of the ROTWCC: Pat Brennan, Kenn Kenaga, Aaron Barnes, Travis McElvany, Mike Rigney, and Bob Cable have actually contributed to the Big Bear area extensively. Rotten Rock Valley is IMO one of the great "quiet" areas in SoCal. Far better climbing than 90% of the SoCal climbers realize. Charles Cole has also contributed alot around some of the older areas and has been the major developer @ Margheritaville. Dan Eubanks and Scott Dunlap have also contributed routes at several local crags (NJC/Lucerne/Riverside Rock Quarry). Rob Jensen, Paul Miller, Erik Husbands, and Greg Hart all contributed to the development at Boxsprings and Frustration. And I agree with Jay, Louie has also been establishing high quality routes in SoCal for a long time, so don't try to not take any credit on this thread as you deserve it! SoCal is lucky to have as many actively developers as it does. It is much different in others parts of the state

Pretty cool. I saw Matt and Nancy climbing in the Pyrennes in a slide show they gave in Austin once. Didn't realize he did route development, too. I mainly know of their caving exploits and uncanny ability to cram people into tiny truck campers.

I've thanked a few of the So Cal route developers in person but I'll never be able to thank you guys ('n gals) enough. I love So Cal sport climbing, please keep up the great work!
