first tip if you want to move to chile or argentina - don't refer to them as chile/argentina. argentina and the rest of south america don't seem to get along too well.

touche. point well taken. honestly, i'll probably shoot for chile first .. mtns and ocean .. what more could a girl ask for ...

if you want to live in a 'stan, i would look at either kazakhstan(almaty) or kirghizistan(bishkek). tashkent in uzbekistan is pleasant enough but extremely hot and the government is quite oppressive - you are very unlikely to be able to live there unless you happen to work for an american company doing a joint venture with the uzbek government.

i'll look into them, but if i head to uzbek, it will probably be for social theory/grad studies. the allure for pakistan is that i already know people there so socializing would be slightly easier. well, as easy as it gets for a strong-willed blonde american girl. ;) .. but, in the end, i think it would be a good experience for me.

Excuse me for being parochial but I need to say that I reckon I live in the best damn spot on Earth. Close to lush tropical rainforests, great surf beaches with warm balmy water, awesome cliffs to explore and put up new routes on, no crowds at the crags even the popular ones. Fishing that is par excellence.

I guess the one downer is that everything is just so far away from everything else. I dunno about living somewhere that you would actually have to rug up for, ugghh, snow sounds sooo, well, cold. We get some cool winds through here sometimes and I tell ya having to put warm coats on is a drag. Still it only last a couple of months per year and when the cool weather does come along it is dry and the friction at the crags is just superb. At least it doesn`t usually rain and the sky is just breathtakingly blue so I can`t complain too much eh.

The great white north, nah, gimme lush green tropical rainforest any day.

i've travelled a lot and i'd have to say i'm pretty darn content with where i am now (colorado). there is a lifetime of alpine climbs to explore in my own backyard.

however, once the pooch goes to dog heaven, i'd consider doing a stint anywhere south of the border (near the BIG hills).

And what's with the months on end of freezing cold?

Plus there's only so much politeness an American can take.
