When I started climbing (a year ago), I said that I would only top rope...afterall that is the safest form of rock climbing. Then I was itchy to try sport...so I did. And now...well...I just did my first trad climbs this past weekend and I am hooked. I never thought I would lead trad...how about you?

i've always wanted to lead trad - since i started climbing and seconded my first route. trad rocks :) i find trad to be more intimate - you really get to know every inch of your route.

I started on toprope outside, it was fun but I wanted more. Then I started sport climbing and sport leading, but still knew something was missing, I was still hungry. I always knew I wanted to climb trad. Still working on being a confident enough trad leader, but long multipitch trad routes have finally satiated me and my climbing desires. While I end up cleaning the route the majority of time, I still feel such a rush of joy and satisfaction on long trad climbs...I don't get that on sport or one pitch climbs. I guess I'm just not in too huge a rush to become an overnight 5.10 trad leader, I'm letting it come more slowly cause I want to focus my climbing on that area and savor every step of the way.

I never thought I'd lead a trad pitch myself, but I did my first one today! I had a sort of adrenaline induced euphoria for about an hour afterwards... hopefully I won't get hooked!
