HA! HA!Your name is diesel smoke and that is exactly what you're blowing up pete's A**!!
You could have moved back onto the hook and dropped the fifi then moved onto the nut....course not having been there, and not being you nobody can really tell you what you should have done....

Simple. Ditch the fifi and get adjustables.

And now, let the spray fest begin...

You didn't test the nut. Once is has been properly tested, un-clip/hook your daisy biner/fifi from the Talon and re-clip it to your next daisy in one continuous movement as you shift your weight from the hook to the nut. Pretty simple, really, but then again, what do I know...

Do you really mean that? Then input from Pete is all you'll get. Let me make it clear -- Pete is a knowledgable climber and is generous with his advice, but that statement is a slap in the face to the DOZENS of solid aid climbers who are members of this site. This is the "Aid Forum." Not the "Stroke Pete's Knob Forum." It's great to post a topic addressing Pete directly -- that's something we've encouraged because Pete has some great input that he is willing to share. But to specifically state that anyone else is "less than" Pete is insulting, inaccurate, and myopic.

Hi John-Paul,
It seems like you have a bomber talon hook placement. Your fifi hook is attached to the hook. It sounds like you have tension on the fifi hook and can't release it from the talon hook. Question? Do you have a 4 inches length of 5 mm cord attached to the top of your fifi hook with knots tied into it --- you should.

That was a little harsh, but I stand by it. I value Pete's input. It's time to bring more guru's into the fold and make this an even broader base of knowledge and experience.

I agree, but are we more likely to encourage other veterans for their input by telling everyone "you can offer advice, but it doesn't hold weight with me unless you're PTPP"? It's this kind of idolatry that turns some of the other experienced aid climbers away. I say bring 'em ALL on! Pete? Karl? Bryan? Brutus? Spike? Ammon? Russ? Others out there lurking??

Let me correct you, what you have experienced is that Pete dominates by volume. Documenting aid climbing techniques is a very detailed and involved process. Pete constantly sprays, and sprays, and sprays in one post, then demonstrates what a humble guy he is in another. It's really too bad, he has things to share, but he is so busy informing everyone what a 'bitchin' (god I hate that expression) guy he is, all the real power of his ability to share knowledge is evenutaly lost. I may not be any big wall mastermind, but I have done a bit of aid climbing. Still have lots to learn. I still have value to pass on but don't have the time or the energy to bother with Pete's abuse of bandwidth promoting himself. It's just not worth it. We have one other person in this forum with far more experience than PTPP, copperhead, but I have a feeling he is through wasting time dealing with 1000 line posts from Pete. Ammon used to post here a bit. Yet another aid climber far beyond PTPP's abilities. He got so sick of the spray he bailed on the forum. Really sad, he was a very valuable asset.

So in closing, spray on Pete, have a party.

i totally agree -- and in fact almost posted something about that .. (posting a question and then saying --only pete may answer-- is stupid)

.. about reading all the articles on aid climbing by pete ..

.. its kind of like a acquired skill .. you learn to skim the articles and ignore 2/3 rds of the post until you get to just the information you're looking for ..

i personally question all of pete's abilites, as a predator you have to wonder what their motivation is.

hopefully soon, we will be able to keep pete out of yosemite and the country all together.

Socal, You're so right!
It appears to me that Pete is the problem. He thinks this forum(and this web site for that matter!) belong to him. Everytime someone steps up with some valuable input he feels the need to directly or indirectly prove that they are not doing things the "better way". I would love to hear more from certain other folks...to bad they don't want to deal with PTPP's Crap.
Thanks Pete.....Thanks alot!

I have a feeling this thread is going to go for pages, and pages. I have been excluding myself from long flame wars recently, and I just want to get my cool airplane signature in the beginning of this one, so I can be in on the action.

Yup, it certainly could be, but it changes nothing. The facts are facts. If pete and gawd want to turn this into their personel play pen then we all loose in the end. Two pathetic indviduals.

With regards to my comment on just using adjustables as opposed to the fifi method, one thing remains constant. The ability to move efficiently in aid systems is no different than in free climbing. It's a question of balance. If you ever watch a really good aid climber move, it's every bit as elegant as watching a good free climber. It looks easy. It all comes with experience.

Thrash away, I know I do.

Interesting. I've read other people say that copperhead is more experienced than Pete. Is this true? Pete's profile says he's climbed twenty-three Grade VI routes, seven of which were solo ascents. Has Bryan done this much? Damn, that's a lot....

What you need to realize is, and what others are trying to tell you is that, Pete is hardly a drop in the bucket by comparision to the accomplishments of a TON of other people. He ain't the only game in town.

And yes, copperhead has indeed done a bunch of climbing in the valley and elsewhere. What separates copperhead and a host of other excellent wall climbers from ptpp, is they have no need to inform you of how "bitchin" they are.

Beware the false prophet.

Once last note, I'm not trying to put copperhead on a pedestal. If pete could only take note of how bryan words and presents his posts, things would be far more productive around here.

Robert
