okay that is very weird....

i posted in that thread, and now my post history doesn't show it anymore. the thread does not show up from a search.

in the mods forum we have a thread that is posted to automatically when a thread is deleted. there is nothing there.

another strange strange mystery.

It must have been beamed up to the mothership for a short time.

I'm sure that shortly it will be returned following a thorough probing...

This is bizarre. We have noted similar "abductions" on a few other threads recently. I don't mean to make light of this, because it is such a sensitive, important, and controversial subject, but Tim and the other programmers have been working their ass off trying to make it so anyone who moves or deletes stuff has that action logged and audited.

Currently, when a thread is deleted it shows up as a message in the mod & editors forum. This thread has not shown up as "deleted" or "moved" by anyone. I'm guessing there's some stuff going on with the database that has nothing to do with mods moving/deleting stuff.

There is apparently a bug, as Tim made it so that a thread cannot be deleted from the Moderation panel without a PM being sent to the user, and a log of it in a specific thread in the M+E Forum. There is no record of this, so it apears that we have a bug.

I will get Tim involved in this.

Maybe I didn't screw up and delete that thread a few weeks ago anyway, but I can take the blame, so either way it matters not.

From what I have seen, the script creates a new page when the previous page hits its limit, but before another post is available to put in the page.

So ... if a page has 10 posts, and the 11th would normally create a new page ... the bug now creates the new page along with the 10th post, but has nothing to put into the next page ... hence the 'there is no post to view' bug.

Just a scripting error, which I'm sure will be fixed as soon as one of our volunteers time. :D

right on. yeah I just moved a thread and it did not automatically append a post -- which indicates to me that the fall-through code to keep from crashing when a topic_id is not passed, does not always work correctly.

man I hate debugging phpbb2. it's too 'clever' for its own good sometimes. I guess I am going to have to throw in a double-checking loop and reject modcp actions that can't be audited -- this is getting very silly (IMHO).

I was concerned for a while that it was a security hole (not at all impossible, of course) but now it looks like it's just a garden variety bug... at least it should be a little easier to track down this way.

I wish we had triggers in the database. I'll look into making thread deletions 'soft' (nonpermanent) and that should settle once-and-for-all whether it is a bug or a hole.

If thats rc.com's theory and answer I cant help but posting my 0.2$ as well.

I asked, "Anything wrong with this picture?"

http://www.home.no/sittingduck/add.jpg

Then there was some 4 or 5 answers and rrradam answered:

There isnt anything wrong with the biner, it is not back clipped and either way would have been fine but this way is by far the best. And something about how the rope was hanging and leg position ...

Then some other answered:
The biner should face left (clever guy)

And another one jumped in and said ... "I'll support rrradam on this one"

And caboom ... post was deleted.
So whats more likely;
1. rrradam deleting a post he answered wrong about basic climbing techinique/safety to save his face/honor.
2. the rc.com explanation about the wormhole bug that accedently deletes threads around this site and conviniently deletes this one that by coincident saves rrradams ass.

Short version: there is sensorship on rc.com ... it sucks!

Well, for what it's worth, I feel better seeing this.

The topic that I flew off the handle about a few weeks ago was an extremely passionate post that affected the future of Yosemite climbing in ways yet to be determined. There were some thinly-veiled death threats contained therein, and I genuinely thought someone at RC.com "chickened out" and deleted the thing because it was so controversial! I'm relieved that this was not the case.

Huge thanks to Tim for looking after this herculean and thankless task of making this damn place work.

I only have about five thousand things to change to square brackets now.

Sheesh.
