I've been climbing for several years and am often struck by the types of pants people where while climbing. It has ranged from baggy and torn to spandex. I've even seen some people wearing form fitting jeans (not much mobility I would think). I go to the store and buy 40+ inch waist pants (I'm normally a 32) off the clearance rack for about $4 bucks. They are baggy and cheap. If they get trashed, who cares. What do you find worth wearing? Why do you wear what you do? Beginners always ask me this and I just say, "Cheap, baggy pants..."

I prefer loose jeans. Every single person I meet seems to have the opinion that jeans lock your legs like cement and don't let you move, but they are my personal favorite.

Yeah I only wear brand name climbing wear because it makes me climb so much better! I can climb 5.14 as long as I'm wearing PRANA shorts and not some cheaper just as good pair of shorts. It is soooooo amazing the things you can do when you wear brand name stuff. I wear loose fitting cargo pants in the winter and any ole pair of shorts in the summer. woodsE

cut off, faded, ripped Levi's 560's, or a pair of Levi's that are like khaki cargo pants... my chalk ball fits right in one of the big pockets.

If you want mobility then the g-string is the only way to go; however if you don't want to get the crap kicked out of you then you'd best find something else. I have a pair of Prana shorts and there ain't nothin' wrong with that. I also have another pair of shorts for climbing but I don't remember the company. I used to climb in a pair of dark blue Levi's pants but they ripped after extended abuse. Now I stick mostly to shorts so I can show off my sexy legs. What I'd like is a pair of climbing shorts or pants that don't bunch up in the crotch when I put my harness on (even though I rarely do that). I think that looks and feels bad and I always have to readjust my shorts when I come off a rowt.

I just can't bring myself to spend $60 for those "climbing" brands. For me it's all about the $20 baggy carpenter pants from Old Navy. Just roll up the pant leg and your good to go! I'll take the extra $40 for gear & beer any day.

I wear the old jeans and cargo shorts when I climb. Jeans outdoors and shorts indoors or when it is really hot outdoors. I don't have alot of money to spend on namebrand climbing pants

Army BDUs. tobacco in right cargo pocket, trash in the left. Roll em up when you want to climb, roll em down when walking out through brush. Plus, they hide dirt and tobacco juice real nice. Also, adjustable waist, baggy around the croch for high stepping and comfort, doesn't chafe if you freeball, and gets nice and toasty around the campfire without melting. I also recommend a 100% wool military beanie (NSN 8405-01-006-1074) for the noggin. Total outfit: <$10. - Floofy John

$19.99 WalMart pants that zip off to create shorts. Who cares if they get trashed? They are baggy enough to climb in as pants and if you get to hot then just turn em' into shorts and stuff the legs in 1 of 10 pockets. I love these pants and I really love the price tag.

I almost always were the same thing: a pair of columbia nylon zip-off fishing pants i picked up at a garage sale for $2 when I was 14. They have lasted me 5 years and don't even look worn except for a blood stain or two:d. I personally have a thing against cotton in the outdoors(ever tried walking or staying warm in wet jeans?). IMO, it's dangerous. But that's just me, most of you guys till seem to be alive after lots of cotton use:) ~Arnold

I have wind pants that I always wear the baggy in the leg and fit just right in the waist. So it I'm wearing a harness the pants don't ride up. Also the legs have velcro on the bottom so I can wear them up and the they don't get in the way of my shoes!

PJ pants are the best way to go. The loose, flannel kind. It's like being naked, minus the emBARE-ASSment. I also got a pair of tight stretch-khakis, from one of those trendy Mudd or LEI or something companies. They give you a similar naked feeling. Shorts, I don't like... unless you wear guy's shorts, they go up your arse and major wedgies take place.
