You know those goofy glove things that are supposed to protect the backs of your hands when crack climbing.

I usually use tape, but you use a whole lot o tape and then it pulls your hair off, well, not mine, not a whole lot left to pull off.

Anyone have any opinions on them, worthwhile, crap or otherwise?

I choose to substitute technique for gloves. Seriously though, if you are able to set your jams carefully and not flail around twisting your jam around. The idea is to rotate at the wrist instead of making the pivot point in your palm. However this doesn't work too well with stacked teacups, or other stuff where your thumb gets blasted repeatedly.

My buddy has some hand jammies. The biggest benefit I get when I have used them (Josh) is that they are actually sticky, so you don't only get protection, but also get a little more stickyness of the jams too. They are really sleak and don't seem to bunch up either. If I were more than a weekend warrior at Josh, I would consider taping more and/or getting the Jammies.

TRADitionally yours,

Addiroids

yup, agree with greatgarbanzo. tape gloves are the way to go, and you really don't even need tape if you dial in your jamming.

the handjammies make your hands too big.

yeah, i agree with greatgarbonzo. good tape gloves last a long time. i have a pair that have seen a lot of mileage in a year or so. just a couple wraps around the wrist and they're still good to go!

learn to jam without gloves. makes for better technique. but yes, gloves are good sometimes.

I've heard of them but never used them. I prefer to be as natural as possible.

I use tape. I dont want to loose any sensitivity in my hands when climbing cracks...

To avoid losing sensitivity in the hands don't put anything on 'em! Just climb a lot and get your hands nice & tough!
The more they hurt the more inspired you'll be to use better technique or just to simply move upward more quickly to relieve the pain.

Uhmm who makes 'em...ABC, advance base camp also a company called Green Gear. I don't know how post a link but Google got me good results.
I haven't tried hand jammies but I have tried Spyderco's Spider Mitts which were pretty much the same thing, only I guess the new ones have a better wrist closure and thicker stickier rubber. I loved my mitts and I'm considering buying the new ones, taping is O.K. but I think these might be cool.
Jeff
P.S. I think the book Quick Clips has how to make tape mitts but I'm not sure.

I'm a taper from way back. I tried the hand jammies on and they felt uncomfortable. also, being thicker than taper, they may not fit certain cracks. I do know someone that swears by them.

Never even heard of such a thing. Tape gloves are good. If the tape is sticking to your hands. Try putting a reverse layer of tape underneath. Keeps it from sticking. I usually only use it on overhanging routes that give me purple indentations in the back of my hands or when I have scabs on the backs of my hands. Anyway, quit thrashing and you won't have any problems.
