Why is it everytime I click on anything to do with this site, I keep getting this coming up: phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database Is there a problem with the site? If I enter my name, I get it, if I click on a forum or thread I get it. If I try to reply to or start a new thread it comes up. The only way I can access what I want to access is by clicking refresh a number of times.

In reply to: Why is it everytime I click on anything to do with this site, I keep getting this coming up: phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database Is there a problem with the site? If I enter my name, I get it, if I click on a forum or thread I get it. If I try to reply to or start a new thread it comes up. The only way I can access what I want to access is by clicking refresh a number of times. Because we've been having some issues lately with the database holding open stale connections. I was under the impression that we'd nicked it by ridding the webserver configuration of some "secret" logfiles that grew to enormous size and then crashed the webserver child processes that actually send the pages to our visitors, but, apparently not. I'll see what I can do about implementing an automatic monitor for this sort of aberrant behavior. It seems that various other sites (Yahoo!, for example) have seen this kind of problem in the past; therefore I'm trying out their suggestions for fixing it. We'll find out soon enough if they fix the problem permanently.

As stated in two other threads in this same Forum... We are all getting this problem. I have made a bug in the Tracker about this, and when a coder gets online, they will fix it. Sorry I can'ty answer "why", as if I knew, I may be able to fix it.

Thanks tim and rrradam. I didn't realise other people had already asked sorry. I thought maybe it was a problem unique to me. I just noticed your thread in community just now Allan

Seems like it's working fine now. I was getting the message every time I clicked. I haven't gotten it in a little while now.

It doesn't seem to be showing now, so that must have done the trick. Thanks Tim
