Looking for some folks to do some climbing close to Seattle, especially mid-week. Exit 38 if the weather is good, Vantage or Tieton if the West side is soggy. To get the "best bang for the buck", clipping bolts would probably be best... I can lead solid 10's, will follow easy 11's.

I am fairly new to the area (moved to Seattle in April) and am totally looking to expand my climbing connections on this coast. I've been leading (sport) 9's and started leading 10's thsi season - but to be honest, have only met partners with less experience than me - know I would push more with a belayer I know has caught a lead fall or two.

I hit the gyms during the week - but get outside every weekend.

Dying to get up to Squamish and down to Smith.

Climb on!

Never went there, but I was under the impression you can climb at Squamish pretty much year round, since it is by the ocean? maybe the shorter routes, and not the real long ones? I remember skiing at Whistler in January and overhearing climbers making plans to hit Squamish.

Of course, I am from New England, and grew up in the Midwest. I'll climb when its 40 outside.

Climbinggirl33: Might be getting a little late for Squamish. But Smith should still be good for another month or so. You interested in doing some routes this coming Sunday?

it is not so much the cold but the rain, however if we get an other mild winter like last year, you could probably climb year round, my partner was climbing in jan.

should still have an other month of climbing

Just caught your post today - yikes! Would have loved to get down to Smith - there's a big climbers "fest" down there this weekend, may be crowded. Hope you got on some rock!

Redpoint - good to see you are still thinking of Squamish ;-) I still have some handwarmers for my chalk bag. Trek down to Ragged Mountain yet?

I spent yesterday down at Vantage - awesome day pushing my limits (lead my second 10). Hot in that sunshine though!!!

Going down to Smith on the 18th though!

Leavenworth next weekend? PM me!

This weekend is the Rope-a-Dope in Leavenworth. Smith may be a better choice.

I went through Squamish last weekend and the weather was awesome. Sadly enough, I was going to climb Wedge Mountain and had to pass through all that rockclimbing :(. It was torture.

I'm often off during the week and I'd be up for a bit of bolt clipping neaby. I'm out on the Olympic Peninsula but I can drive, we've got a few mediocre crags out here too if yer looking for a change. Drop me a PM. :-)

Glacier and lots o' scree scrambling. It was all basically ice and no snow though, so late in season. Open crevasses everywhere, it was like a maze trying to find our way through. Not too sure what route it was exactly, I think it was the basic one though.
On a side note: We left the cars at 8:00 and got to base camp around 11:30. Feeling cocky, we decided to do the whole thing in a day. It ended up being a 20 hour day and included me going head-first on my back down 55 degree slope because the guy leading our rope took a fall. It all turned out ok though :) .

Rope a dope . . .um, that doesn't sound very appealing.

Want to get on Outer Space . . .

sigh.

Can't commit to Smith this weekend - but am heading down there the weekend of the 18th for the first time.

Recommendations? I've been leading solid 9's around here (sport) and lead my second 10a this weekend (10's can be a little dicey, then again, if I have a good belayer dicey can be a rush).

Grades are largely in your head. Don't get stuck in the "numbers" game. There are only two grades, as I have been told almost 20 years ago: a 5.yep and a 5.nope.

I will most likely be at Vantage or Tieton this weekend.

Where is Yelm, exactly? Isn't it about 20 minutes from Fossil Rock?
I heard that there is some great bouldering there. And it stays dry because of the over hanging walls.

Too funny!

Yeah - the weather is making Vantage look more and more like the place for this weekend.

Fossil Rock is kinda tricky to get to. I've only been there once and I liked it... except for the fact I got kicked out/arrested for trespassing. The Climbing Washington book has pretty good directions to the crag, thats what I used and managed to find my way. If you go, call the land owners and make sure you're gonna be allowed to be there, trust me on that one. :P
