How many cams do you have on your rack, and how many is usually enough for trad climbs that require you to build an anchor? I have about 21 cams in all and doubles in most sizes up to a #4 friend.

31 Cams, 65 Stoppers, and 5 Hexes... About 90% of my placements are stoppers.

12 cams, 30 stoppers, and 12 hexes. On 90% of my climbs, I will only carry about half the cams and 40 % of the passive gear.

In reply to: How many cams do you have on your rack, and how many is usually enough for trad climbs that require you to build an anchor? I have about 21 cams in all and doubles in most sizes up to a #4 friend. like most questionsi n climbing .. the answer is "It depeneds" -- in this case it depends on the route .. .. sometimes i take 1 set of cams .. sometimes you double up on specfic sizes .. if i dont know to much abou tthe route .. i take doubles on aliens size red to #2 camalot .. and carry either 1 #3 and 3.5 .. or up to #4 ... .. heavy -- -- ricardo

Lessee. I'm not going to win anything on this one, but: 4 TCUs, though I broke one and can't find it anymore, which is really to bad. It was always fun showing that one off. :P 6 camalots All hexes except #11, which mysteriously has vanished. 7 tricams

You replied. Ask yourself. As for me, someone asked and answering was painless enough, so why not?

I thought I had a lot of cams until I met Flagstaff_Climber. Dude has an arsenal of 90+ cams!!! Makes my 47 look like a beginner rack. His closet must look like a gear shop. In fact, I'm certain my local shop doesn't have 90 cams at any one time. Ed

I assume all the people with few cams are not replying to this thread. So I have six cams and they do me very well. Much better than when I had only 2 not long ago. More often then not I have left over cams on my rack after a pitch. Any way I leaned on all pasisive pro (stoppers) Then I got some tricams(X2 pink red blue) Cams Have been a great addition more would be nice But 6 honestly has done me well. Having some more of the Really big and really small cams would be nice for some routes Is there any point for a free climber to carry more than 20 cams?

34 cams 3 Big bros 31 stoppers 3 hexes (old chouinards that were fished out of random chunks of sandstone). My standard rack is usually a single set, with doubles where needed. I almost always carry up to the #4 C4. I carry the bigger crap, like the bros and the monster cams when needed. I also usually supplement my rack with my partners, which is usually a set of dolt nuts and a few hexes. edited because i'm a gear whore.....woohoo!

Guess my rack is pretty puny then. I've got 13 cams (BD #0.5,0.75,1,2,3,3.5,4,4.5,5, a couple of medium size trango cams, and four random unlabeled cams I bought in Russia for $9 each, roughly size 0.5-2 BD). I generally carry anywhere from 4-10 of those depending on the route. Oh and I've got 12 hexes and 14 nuts, plus some random tricams, pins, oddities, etc.
