So you’re out on a multi-pitch climb, 3 pitches up. The next pitch is traversing out at a 45º with questionable protection. Almost at the top, the leader falls and rips out 3 piece of gear. He is now hanging 10 feet below you, and 30 feet out to the side. He is unconscious and help is at least 2 hours away.

What do you do, WHAT DO YOU DO!

I think I saw an episode of McGiver like that. I dont think you ahve to do anyhitng because the rope is going to break anyways and the girl willf all to her death. Of course, this is after you try to save her to no avail. So may as well save your time and effort for getting yourself down, She's a goner.

But back to reality...Why not just use your jetpack? What?! You dont ahve a jetpack?!?!

that show was not McGiver don't ever knock McGiver..... because he could make shift it all with whatever gear he has as long as he has that little red knife and ducttape.

Pray......really hard.......and then perform a self-rescue. .....

It sounds like the belayer should have enough rope (and then some) to self belay up, over, and down to the injured climber.

If you don't have the skills and know how to free yourself from the anchor without dropping the anchor, and safely ascending the rope/self belay....then you're pretty much reduced to prayer....and yelling really, really loud.

Then maybe in a few minutes....your partner will regain consciousness, and the two of you can figure something out.

It really was! I swears! It was one of those flashback type things. Somehow it figured into the story, but I dont remember the story exactly. I think it had something to do with him being scared. I dunno.
