******************************************** I just came back from La Guairita. During my stay I visited and climb in a new area (a bouldering one) known as La Cima. This area has been developed with just the same style of Fountainbleau. On the base of all and every single one of the boulder problems a tiny square (of 1" x 1") has been painted (with oil paint) with a specific color that gives you an idea of the dificulty of the problem... then you conect all the problems with the same color to do a "circuit"... WHAT´S YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS???

This post have been for a long time and I get no answer... I can NOT beleive that everyone just feels "whatever" about the painted boulders.

I have never actually seen the paint on the boulders that you speak of, but I am bothered by the idea. Much of the reason I climb is to get out in the mountains and take in and enjoy what Mother Nature has done. I hate to see real estate development, I hate to see litter, and I would hate to see paint on rocks.

I have never seen painted boulders either. But I am against this as it is an unnecessary action. We cannot destroy our environment for convienience. Surely climbers should understand this. It could also pose a problem with land access. In this sticky issue one of the things climbers have on their side is that we have a minimal impact on the environment. Or at least we should... BELOW THE ANSWERS I GOT FROM THE A FONTAINBLEAU RESIDENT: 1. There is almost no enviroment tread. The paint can be easily removed since is not a permanent (like a hole for a bolt just to compare) damage. 2. Is the easiest way (I cant think of anything else) to actually find the problems that you are looking for. Remember this area is load with vegetation and boulders, is almost impossible to do a topo of each boulder face (think about 500 boulders each with 3 faces...). 3. About the access... well is pretty much the same with chalk rigth? (the squares are minimalistics and are gone in a couple of months if are not repainted...)
