Just joined because it's close to my house and I need to burn some energy and obviously some $$$. I know the wall closes soon. Does anyone here climb there?

She's been there.

Stephanie, hope to read a review 'bout the place sometime. Your post and holdplease2's were most informational when I was first looking for gyms in the area.

btw, may I know how much was the LPAC membership?

I've climbed at LPAC for years. I also climb at Hidden Peaks when the weather is not great.

I like both. There very different. This year we have a lot better routes then the past years. In fact a couple of route setters from Hidden Peaks are working at LPAC ad setting nice sequency routes.

I'm usually there Tuesday and wedesday nights.

Have fun.

Actually I went there for the first time on Saturday and I really like the couple routes I did. I've been eyeing it for the past year now :D

And I've been to Hidden Peak a few times already. Hope to go more this winter.

hey steph!

well, i have climbed at lpac and hidden peak. both are great gyms.
how close are you to lakeshore athletic club (i mean the one with the giant climbing wall)? lakeshore has a really great climbing facility. nate works there once in a while.

im going to try and visit lakeshore tomorrow afternoon, around 3.

Hey Lesley! Actually I'm heading to VE tomorrow after work. Miss the place! I've been to Lakeshore a few times and really like the place, just a little pricey for me. Maybe I'll see you at VE soon!

If you like to bolder, go to Fitplex. Don't come if you rope up.

A new wall is going to open at North Ave. and Wells in Old Towne in Chicago in November. Sorry I don't know any other details though.

Interesting. Can you keep us posted on the new gym? Also LPAC is opening a new facility in June close to Belmont and Broadway with an indoor wall.

I checked out the new gym a month or so ago when they were under development.

From all appearances, and what little info I was able to get out of the saleslady, it'll be a featured Nicros wall (like the one at VE) that is 20 feet tall and approx 15 feet wide. Autobelay devices too.

Personally, I think I'd be bored there after figuring out all the features in a day or two. IMO, it's not a wall for climbers; it's a wall for members to do something different every now 'n then.

As for location, it's in the old Office Depot space in the Piper's Alley mall.

I didn't mean to type a "?". It was supposed to be a statement and it was in regard to how fake everyone is that climbs there. It's a bunch of sport weany-noobs who climb just to say they "rockclimb". The 10 routes the gym usually has flow like they were set by a one armed blind person. And I also love trying to follow a route where half the tape has fallen off. $20 for a day-pass to climb 10 routes on 6 ropes to be surrounded by fake people?

I'm just bitter there's not a real gym in this damn city. Please don't take my comments to heart if you like that place. I'm just stating a fact.

AWESOME!!! I find lots of gyms have the same problem though. They might have a route that runs at 5.11 but it is so freaking awkward like someone just put holds in random places. *shrugs*

So the big city is getting a new gym huh???

I climbed a ton at LPAC before I moved out here to Vail, Colorado last year and it's not all that bad...yes there are some contrived routes that are put up to keep us mortals in check but all of the routes under 5.11 that I climbed there were of good quality. But where else can you spend a summer evening after work laughing at all of the gawkers walking up and down Sheffield and Diversey looking at the funny people hanging off of a fake rock wall...

Lakeshore is good but way spendy unless you can somehow get a hookup...although the wall is way tall...

Fitplex is fun but way short...

The best solution is to leave the city and move to somewhere that you can climb year round (either rock or ice) and until you do just take what you can get...becuase we all know that climbing in a gym is just training for the real thing...

Come out to Vail and make a visit, there's always room on the couch for visitors...

Hopefully...but right now it's pretty bad....no new snow in weeks and what we have is pretty thin.

Going to do some ice climbing in East Vail today...hopefully that will be good...
