Does anyone have advice or know an individual who is especially good at helping someone get over an abnormal fear of getting above their protection on lead. (Bolts or Trad Gear)

What is the fear of? Falling? Take some easy falls and start getting progressively bolder. Best way to get past a fear is to confront it.

You could always try to have them clean a route, then they could get used to pretending they were about their last piece of pro. Also, if you can somehow set up a top rope near some sport routes, you could have the person take the rope up with them, so they know how it feels to climb above their last piece of pro, but if they get into any real trouble, they have the top rope to keep them safe. Sometimes its scary to move to the next bolt while sport climbing. I sometimes have the problem where I know I could make the move if I was 5 feet off the ground, but since I'm 50 ft high and 8 ft from my last piece, I just can't make the move. I really don't know of any way to get over that feeling other than to just forget and make your move.

Sounds like you may be a good candidate for the new "Warrior's Way" Forum in the "clubs" section of RC.com. Check it out.

Go to Yosemite and lead "Snake Dike". You'll be over that fear in no time.

Then go ahead and enjoy the rest of the Valley.
