Ok, me and my friend can go ANYWHERE we want for spring break, we are both trying to decide where is the best place to boulder (his parents say no to trad and sport climbing without someone more qualified lol) in the US. ok easy enough BUT catch is his parents wont let us camp so we need a place with a hotel within like 15 minute drive. thanks for any help.

that dude has some lame-ass parents. Are they paying for the trip? If not you should be able to camp if you want to. Do you guys know how to sport climb? If so you should tell his parents you are going to RRG in Kentucky to boulder and then sport climb 'til your fingers fall off. it not too far from you guys. oh yeah, why don't they want you guys camping? thats just retarded! :?

just my two cents

they are paying for everything, including 10 nights in a hotel  ? that kid is either very rich, very spoiled, or both. take the money from the trip and buy a rope and quickdraws then go to the Red. Man, with all the money you could get a solid trad rack. Why won't they let you lead?

Anywhere huh?

That's pretty vague. How about Bishop, Central Texas, Alabama, or Geogia. There should be bouldering AND hotels at some of these places.

Hueco Tanks.

Go bouldering there, and you'll be a happy man. And you can find a hotel in el paso just a few minutes away. Even without guided tours, pick up a guide book, and you'll be able to entertain yourselves on north mountain for weeks.

Other than that, hit Horsepens 40. Your tips will be bleeding within two days, but it's a hella happy two days.

Tell Your folks you don't need any $ for this trip.....take a job and earn it from now till then.

In exchange for not costing them anything, tell them its going to require they unlock your sack. Yes this whole family otta grow some sac and put the cash in the boys college fund and teach him how to get by on very little.

UNLESS.....

Option B
I will be your experienced leader. Pay for my flight and trans and I'll meet up in Yosemite.

Cheers dude,
bill

I would also suggest the Red. If you want to do Sport, I can guarantee you that you'll be able to find someone on a day-to-day basis that will lead for ya. Just don't mention it to your friends parents. There are places near by to stay, you just have to search a little. Try asking on redriverclimbing.com for local hotels/motels/cabin rentals.
joshj

2-days and counting 'til some "late-fall" bouldering in the red!

It seems like there are a couple things that are being missed here. First, by the distance that the stick is shoved up the ass of your buddy's parents, I'm going to guess that you're in High School. If you're in college, its time for your buddy to strap one on and tell his folks that there isn't anything wrong with camping or sport climbing, and that he'll do whatever he pleases.

Assuming you guys are in High School, is somebody else going along with you? If you REALLY do need to stay in a hotel, you have the issue of getting to the crag to deal with. Nobody's going to rent you a car. I know of nowhere with easy public transportation from hotel to rock. And I doubt that you'll meet other climbers in the lobby in the morning.

Good luck.

At some point you will reach the conclusion that you really can make decisions for your self. At that point, stop asking and start telling.

If your uncle goes with you and you want to sport climb go to St. George UT. It'll be a little more exotic for you than going to RRG and cool to visit new places.

HP 40. Some of the best bouldering I've ever seen AND you can have a blast camping. Yea, I know your folks don't want you doing that, but with Mike around with his arsenal... he'll keep you safe.

go to bishop for bouldering. the weather will be stable; it seldom rains. Plus, there are numerous motels/hotels w/in minutes of thousands of boulder problems on different kinds of rock.

Nothing else even comes close to comparing to bishop in the U.S. for bouldering considering the combined factors of quantity, quality, diversity, and convenience.

my 2 cents

Grayson,

Don't listen to the Bishop spray. You already live in the mecca. If I were you, I would just stay here and climb... But, since I know you want to go somewhere new, you should go to Hueco. Seriously. You and your friend would really like it.

Head to Santa Fe New Mexico and we will show you some shit. Spots and Boulders that blow Yosemite out of the water. Some of the hardest untouched lines in the country all lie here. There stuff that Sharma needs to check out V15 and Beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!
