In reply to: "I am insane with long horrible periods of sanity." AH HA! Edgar Allan Poe. How about another poet: "Live with me, and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove That hills and valleys, dales and fields, And all the craggy mountains yields."

In reply to: How about another poet: "Live with me, and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove That hills and valleys, dales and fields, And all the craggy mountains yields." Shakespeare. "When Roper said things like, 'We were young and full of hubris,' I always misunderstood him. I didn't know what 'hubris' was, and from the context I took it to mean a brownish, foul-smelling stuff much like what comes out of horse's assholes." . . [Added] The answer is Warren Harding.

Not about climbing exactly, but close...It is about Polar exploration, and i love it: Who said the following.... "For scientific leadership, give me Scott. For a swift and efficient travel, give me Amundsen. But if you are in a hopeless situation, and you see no way out, get done in your knees and pray for SHACKLETON" The quote is a wellknown one, but the author is not.... 8) PD: if you like climbing history, you will probably like also reading about Polar exploration. Try it....

Shakespeare. Not true. That is from either the poem "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe or the song "Live with me and be my love" by Annie Lennox. The words are the same in both cases.

Shakespeare. Not true. That is from either the poem "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe or the song "Live with me and be my love" by Annie Lennox. The words are the same in both cases. I stand corrected. It was Christopher Marlowe. For what it's worth, these lyrics have also been attributed to Shakespeare, who was born in the same year as Marlowe. There has even been speculation that Marlowe and Shakespeare were the same person, but I don't think that is a generally held belief. Perhaps someone with a better grasp of early English history could enlighten us on the specifics. In any case, I think we can be pretty sure that Annie Lennox borrowed the lines. --------- Another quote: "Routes were vague back in the old days, and by using vague words we guidebook writers could ensure that climbers would get just as lost as we did."

Layton Kor Man or woman, you have to have the mental characteristics, the ability to concentrate, the focus, the flexibility, where women have the advantage, and strength-to-weight ratio. It does depend on the raw power.

How about another poet: "Live with me, and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove That hills and valleys, dales and fields, And all the craggy mountains yields." This is from Marlowe's The passionate Shepherd to His Love the poem actually starts off: Come live with me and be my love, and we will all the pleasure prove That valleys, groves, hills and fields, Woods, or steepy mountain yields well according to my book for my english class this semester that is how it starts off. I guess I did learn something from my english comp 2 class huh.
