If I look at the big "who's online list", 4 people on my friends list are online. If I look at the bar at the top, "None of your friends are online." I'm assuming this feature is broken at the moment? (Oh, Grammar Nazi moment: it should be "None of your friends IS online", as "none" is the subject of the sentence. ;)) k.

NO is singular. Wax the preprostional phrase get it down to None are online. None implies a group. Plural. Right? Or am I just confused. But I'll tell you what, "None is online" sounds like ghetto grammer. Travis

Every goddamn time I commit a change, it gets discarded a few weeks later... this will be take #4 for Friends Online. Which is rather important for troll control, but hey, new shiny things are always more important...

In reply to: What's that saying about sleeping dogs? I think it goes like this "None of the sleeping dogs lie". But how could they when they can't speak. Oh wait, "let sleeping dogs lie"? But we already decided they can't lie so it must be " let sleeping dogs lay" Right. Or maybe it's "none of the dogs is "asleep on their feet." But oops is that single or plural? Ok, enough rambling. Which is what the dogs do when you let them out. 8)

Dude, it was working immediately prior to the Great Changeover, and afterwards it went missing. Make of that what you will, since the Great Changeover meant a switch to using separate templates. But the Friends Online display went away at that point.

Actually, I've already mentioned this several times in a general sense -- Not all of the 'recent' changes to HEAD got merged to the DEV_STI branch. The usual practice is for the author to merge. I did my best to do it for you, but I couldn't keep track of every thing you did.

Doesn't mean they know who you are, but who cares, they are your FRIENDS!

Okay okay, I am busting out my nerdy English master's knowledge now: None of your friends are online In the classic subject-verb arrangement we have: "friends" as subject (noun) and "are online" (present verb) The phrase "none of your" is a qualifier to friends. The word "none" is a plural adjective implying that there are more than one. There for the "friends-none" agreement is in place. Now, If the subject is plural, then the verb must also agree: ARE. AS FOR ROBMCC's PUNDIT:
In reply to: "Is the subject" or "are the subjects". You must choose. But choose wisely. Since he was referring to the phrase, "None of your friends" as a phrase and not to the actual friends, it would be singular. Thus, "None of your friends" (the object) is singular and the sentence becomes: "None of your friends" is the subject. Woooooo. That's why they pay me the big bucks. Oh yeah.
