I am a newbie in aid world and I am trying to build a wall rack. Every topo and gear list I see recommends sawed angles. I haven't found a single manufacturer of sawed angles. Is a sawed angle serated or something? If so, are they sold? Or do you need to cut them yourself. Or am I so naive that I sould never consider putting myself on rock let alone with a hammer? Any tips would be appreciated.

sawed angles are used in beaten out pin scars or flares where the placement is wide, but the crack/seam is shallow enough to cause a normal angle to bottom out before becoming good. they are usually created by taking stock length angles and cutting them down shorter in length. there's a lot of differing opinions as to how short to cut them, but if you can swing it cost-wise it's good to have 2/3 length and 1/2 length angles as a minimum.

Cassin makes some sweet little pre-sawed angles. They're in small-ish sizes though. For something as beat out as the Shield, you'll need something a bit larger than these (unless they've started making bigger ones in the last couple of years). Only full-blown Cassin dealer in the states that I'm familiar with is a shop in Portland, OR called ClimbMax. I believe the same people also run Pagan in Moab.

Some MEC stores in Canada carry the Cassin baby angles (the Vancouver one specifically). They're not on their website though.

Metolious sells sawed off angles but from what I've been told you're better off making them yourself.

I learned a trick from an old timer once. Saw your thicker knife blade lenth wise down the center. (For better fit in thin twisting cracks) 8)
