I heard from a co-worker of mine this morning that there will soon be another Tract-Home community built on the Santee Boulder Field site...has anyone else heard this too? Is this possible?

I have heard this rumor, too. I have heard various rumors for the past 5 or 10 years including that they may be incorporated into the County park or set aside as an open space/buffer, south of the landfill. The Santee boulders are located on private land. Periodically, there are new survey markers extending all the way back up the canyon. Any development should be going through the local planning commission (not sure if Santee has there own or if they use the County's. All these materials are subject to public review and should be readily available. I have unfortunately not taken the time to research this and have just relied on rumors. Does anyone have first info on the proposed development or zoning changes?

My co-worker read it in her Winter edition of Santee Living. They haven't posted the new one yet...

It looks like the are is zoned for low/med density housing still. The boulders are located near the lower left corner of the map, above the two green "Public" parcels. http://www.ci.santee.ca.us/dds/genplan.htm It would be ashame to see the area blasted and turned into houses. Who wants to buy houses located near the entrance of a landfill anyways.

man that would suck if they developed the area... but do you think they would leave some of the boulders... like scenery? I'd for sure buy a house with a big boulder as my backyard.

Hmmm... There's a lot of uncertainty about this. Santee bouldering area is either about to become tract housing, is safely in the hands of MTRP, or as I last heard, is still privately owned but MTRP has plans to acquire the land. http://www.giantsoftware.com/sdcc/who_owns_the_land.html

Santee updated their Web Page with regards to a housing development application planned in the Boulder Field. It's on page six ("Santee Expresses Concern Over San Diego Housing Project") and states that 500 homes are in the plan...There is a phone number listed (619-258-4100 x167) for residents with concerns.
