Have a wicked time, the climbing is amazing and I would suggest taking your gear - you could rent from the schools out there, but your equipment is familiar and reliable!!! Cheers Nathalie

I have yet to make a decision but I was thinking about heading from Malaysia up to krabi. The guys I climb with hear in Japan have been there a number of times. When I told them I wanted to climb on my trip they advised me to skip the malay climbing (its harder to come by) and head to Krabi. Since I am not doing a climbing trip, they suggested bring the basics, and hook up with someone there. They also said renting was affordable. Both of these guys are serious climbers, who have done a bit of everything. There are a few places to climb in krabbi some are touristy and others are for serious climbers, and others for the climber/beach bum. I myself was in thailand for a month a few years ago(not krabbi), and personally I would have to say there is so much to do there your gear will just way you down. Not to mention the fact that you will have to worry about it walking off. Below is excerpt from my personal post: I will be in Malaysia from the 26th of december until the 12th of january. Would like to hook up with anyone interested. I am a beginer climber, and will only have my basic sport gear: shoes, harness, ATC, locking, slings. I cant lead much, but my belaying is good, and I dont mind climbing with people of different grades. In fact I prefer it. I am trying to travel light so I will not bring my rope or quick draws. This is not a climbing specific trip, but I want to spend 3-4 days climbing, near a beach preferably. Please contact me: OFFICE: bryan@connection-jp.com Traveling:(bminnery@hotmail.com) PS If you contact me after the 13th, please use the hotmail address. I will be leaving (japan) for Egypt on the fourteenth, and then singapore the 26th, and Malay some time after that.
