I've been climbing for a little over a year inside but don't have much experience outside at all. Some friends and I are planning a tirp to the New River Gorge in West Virginia. We hope to do some sport climbing and toproping. Any tips or info on either the area or learning to climb outside would be greatly appriciated.

At least one of you in your party should be an experienced outdoor climber. Get ahold of the book Climbing: From Gym to Crag by Peter Lewis. It does a good job of covering the additional risks of outdoor climbing and the additional skills you need to climb outdoors safely. -Jay

My tip on the New is that there are many excellent places in the area to get good biscuits. But if you eat too many of them you will struggle on the stiff routes there. They don't make biscuits like that in CA... JT has given you good advice...
