I heard some nasty rumors that camping in J-Tree just turned to pay per site. Anyone know if this is true? -Bluevan

I just got home from Jtree - the notices are posted in the park. The decision has been made to charge $5/day per site in addition to the entry fees. This will take effect in February 2004 if I remember correctly. Camping is free until then.

I have also heard (and it may or may not be true), that this is actually another one of those "voluntary" fee demos. Where paying is not legally required (but they don't tell you that), but if the program "succeeds" (enough people pay), then it will be required. I would directly ask at the gate if you are legally required to pay. If it is indeed voluntary, I think they would have to tell you that if you specifically ask.

This was double posted, so I'm getting rid of the other one, but I figured I'd post Addiroids' response here so it isn't lost.
