So from what i have read and got from talking to people, that they use the fifi for moving up the traditional daisies and to get in short to a piece
Are they still useful for someone using adjustable daisies? to me it seem like you wouldn't one then,

i don't use a fifi in either situation. with adjustable daisys, there just isn't a need for it. with traditional daisys, i have a biner on a sling in close to my harness. the damn fifi gets hooked everywhere and is a pain in the butt.

You could still use a fi-fi along with adjustable daisys as way to get in close on a piece at your waist instead of pulling in really tight on the adjustable daisy. I prefer using a keylock biner for this purpose.
Before you decide on adjustable daisys or standard daisys you may want to take a look at this thread...

I still bring a fifi w/ adjustable daisies for a couple of reasons.
1. Adjustable daisy buckles break.
2. Sometimes they will fit in a tight wire loop on a head or other fixed crap or the hole on a mangled pin or half-flattened ancient bolt hanger when a biner will not. Other hooks could be used here too though.

I have done walls with static BD fifi, regular daisy's and regular aiders.
I now use both adjustable fifi and adjustable daisy's with Russian Aiders.

Not to mention fifi's can be handy for a duecy out from a fixed piece on a traverse...give the rope a shake, out pops the fifi, and yer good to go.
I shaved the little top hole off my BD fifi...now mucho lower profile and fits into the hole on my ice axe...speakin' of aid climbing...ha ha...

No fifi for me either. Using it for a deucy lower out does sound interesting. Are you sure the fifi will always pop loose when you shake the rope?

I use the fifi and the Metolius adjustable daisies. I've found that when I cinch tight on my diasey, the stitching for the end of the daisey prevents me from getting as close to the piece as I'd like, and cinching it too tight makes top stepping more difficult. So instead of yarding extra hard to get a few more centimeters closer, I just pop the fifi directly into the piece. I find that using the fifi makes using the adjustable daisey easier because it eliminates one of the more difficult aspects of using the Metolius adjustables -- here's the sequence:
- step up on piece and cinch daisey accordingly.
- when I get to the third step, that's when I stop cinching the daisey and pop the fifi directly into the piece.
- the tension on the fifi keeps me tight to the piece through the range of the third and second steps.
- when top stepping, the fifi is now too tight and restrictive for me to continue upward. I pop the fifi out, and the adjustable daisey is now at the perfect length to allow me to maintain tension, but not too tight that it won't allow me to move up.
The cool thing about doing it that way is not needing to jack with extending the adjustable daisey at the most awkward moment -- when I'm trying to get into the top step. It's already at the proper length because I didn't over-cinch it as I was moving up toward the piece.
That's what works for me. YMMV.

Ed,
that makes a lot of sense to me, seems liek it would make highstepping in the aiders much less awkward having to reach down and release the daisies
was contemplating just attaching a sling with a biner, but the fifi sounds easier, but then again i have done zero aid at the moment.

A pika aardvark seems to work particularly well...so much so...that some folks use them to rappel from with a single strand...eeek...
And if not, can retrieve at the top of a dead point if need be...with a cheap thrill swing to follow...! Anyhoo, easier than unclippin' a biner.
BD ones are sooo lightweight its hard to not take them along as a backup...

As we all know, aid climbing is a butch and manly activity primarily undertaken by gruff heterosexual males. So why the hell do we use such effeminate and ghey names as "fifi hooks" and "daisies". I mean it just ain't right. I hereby propose that we rename them to something that doesn't embarrass in a public bar. My vote is for something gangsta like "glock chain" and "hip hook".
