Hey, anyone out there that wants to climb the second week of January in NE Arkansas (i.e. Horseshoe or Sam's) or somewhere in SW Missouri?? I'm in Joplin Missouri (an hour from Fayetteville, Ark) visiting family - If I'm going to do any good in a bouldering comp back in ATL on the 17th I need to be hitting the rock! Help me out! Let's get out there, so I can get out of here! -Deke

Are you wanting to climb, or just boulder?

are you talking Jan 4-10 or Jan 11-17? I'm in central MO, but i'm on winter break and wouldn't mind some climbing. Also, I can talk to some of my friends in southeast MO who might not mind an excuse to climb. e-mail if any of this sounds appealing. josh

Deke, not much in the way of major destinations, but there are a few spots midway between Joplin and Columbia (where i'm at right now) that offer plenty of limestone, especially sport: The Quarry and Trapper's Camp out by Osceola Truman Lake and Kaysinger by Warsaw. I could meet for a day or two at any of these. (Warning: the only one of these that i've actually been to is Warsaw, but i've got a guidebook and friends seem to like them!) If I can get ahold of another buddy of mine, a couple days at Sam's might not be too far out of the question. I need to be in Columbia the night of the 5th and the night of the 9th. anything else is probably open. (Warning: next week is supposed to be pretty chilly!) josh

kaysinger-closed and bolts gone. Petra Rock gym in Springfield would probably be your best bet. In joplin , there is the super lame Wildcat Park, but if you were desperate...I could try and find directions... Reed's Bluff and Trappers Camp in Osceola are pretty close to you as well. Info is on this site. Mostly limestone sport climbing. But...honestly, the absolute best climbing you are gonna get close to you is in northern arkansas. good luck. jer
