I am going up this weekend and wanted to know how I find out where the avalanche chutes usually are and whether or not the climbing route to the top is prone to avalanches? I called the Avalanche center and they just say moderate avalanche danger and high on the east sides of the mountain. We are going to be on the south side of the mountain. How do we make sure it is safe? Help?

It's called a test pit. When you get up there, make one. That, the Avy center, and your own evaluation skills are the best things you have. Good luck, ace.

get some avalanche education. an excellent start is to read snow sense - i forget the authors. nothing really substitutes for a good level 1 avy class though. carry beacons, shovels, and probes and know how to use them if you have even a shread of doubt.
