Long ago a good friend of mine expounded on the value of SMC shallow angles. He said that they gave you the size range of Lost Arrows but at a lot less weight. I've never seen any for sale. Anyone used them and have a source? Thanks.

Go to barrabes.com they have a good selection of pins, some affordable enough to not have to feel bad about sawing 'em off! Jeff

Thanks for the replies, fellas, but you're thinking of the wrong kind of pins. Shallow angles are named thus not because of their length, but their thickness. This is why they fit LA-sized cracks. They are not stubby/sawed off angles. Guess this really shows my age... SMC quit making them years ago, and I was trying to see if anyone had seen a local source.

Two manufacturere that I know of make "shallow" angles covering your typical LA size. 1. Lucky, a spanish company, with US distribution via Metolius. These, called "right angles" come in three sizes (length) of 1", 1 1/2", 1 3/4". I have the set and can say the longest one is the only one you'll want. They run about $7.50 if I remember. 2. Pika, a US company (http:/www.pikamtn.com)makes two lengths of shallow angles, at $9. Both are 4130 steel. The clipping eye on the Pika is bigger, and better. The eye on the Lucky is TINY. I can't get about half of my biners through it. Enjoy, and try a cam hook first before you nail ehh?

Thanks Will, I didn't know Pika had started making the shallows. Hadn't been to their site in a long time. I hear ya on the cam hooks. I've got mine equipped w/ stainlesss steel clip in loops (#2 rivit hangers) and use them a lot. I just need the shallows for when I run out of 1/2" bolts while retrobolting 5.6 crack routes... just kidding.
