Climbing Harness for 3 years old! What is out there?

I am looking for a Full body harness for a petite 3 year old, my daughter. All of the harnesses I have researched have a minimum recommended age of 4 years or higher.

I am wondering if anyone knows, from experience, a harness that would fit securely, or be adjustable enough to fit securely.

Hopefully, my daughter will be doing gym climbs (we have a small gym at work) and eventually some top roping at places like Stoney Point (great bolted boulders to teach kids on.)

A big thanks in advanced for your responses.

Check with Petzl and Trango, they both make childrens full body harnesses. But, if your daughter is that young and that petite, none may fit her very well (at least not enough to be completely safe)
If push comes to shove, check out how one is made and have someone competent in stitching/repairing harnesses make a tinier version for you to use until she gets big enough to fit the commercial versions. :P

Thanks so far,

I worry that the Petzl and Trango will be to small. I never thought about having one made for her, I will look into this. I am sure I will end up buying one even at the risk of it being too large. I can always use it when she gets bigger. I still hope to hear from someone who went through this same issue.

Thanks

My 3 yr old son uses a Petzl but he is average size and it barely adjusts down to fit him. I thought they use to go by weight not age. He weights 37 pounds but I can't remember what the Petzl recommened for weight.

My daughter weighs 26 pounds, so I guess the Petzl probably will not work. Hopefully I can find one that starts at 30 pounds.

My daughter is <30 lbs and fits in the orange Trango full body harness. Everything is cinched down all the way, but its still a little loose. Once she's tied in, it fits fine. The tie in is at the chest and pulls the "suspender" portion of the harness together. I have no worries of her falling out if it. Its comfortable and she loves to wear it, especially if she get to clip on a piece of gear or chalk bag.

go with the Petzel. my youngest is 28lbs and I put her in it quite comfortably. She is more into hanging around in it than actually climbing. I set up a TR on a juggy, slightly overhung line and let her go for it. She is getting comfy with the idea of climbing and when she really begins to climb the harness will fit like a glove. I also have a 40lb daughter and it fits her great.

Apologies for somewhat hijacking this thread, but anyone know where can I find a helmet for my daughter in that age range?

I've had trouble with that as well.

I have a very small 5yr old that the Petzl works great for. My 7yr old uses the Trango. As far as I can tell the Trango will adjust out until she is 11 or 12. I will take a closer look later and re-post if I find differently.

Blue water used to make one that I could adjust down to fit my 3 year old son. It worked well. He is now four almost five and still uses it. The harness is called Zoot. The label says 5 to 12, but I don't think it would fit a twelve year old unless they really petite. Hope that helps.

If you're worried about whether or not it'll fit, just take your kid to the store and try them on.
