Crop worth $30 million seized near Toronto. Lame!!! Don't the police have better things to do, like work on unsolved homicides? I'm tellin' ya, the way things are going, it will soon like like the freakin' States in Canada. Then I'll have to move to South America.

I like the irony of these growers employing 50 people in part of an old Molson's brewery shut down a few years ago. They even grew plants in old beer vats. To give some indication of the size, they had thousands of grow lights and 30,000 plants. Gives new meaning the idea of Hemp Ale.

They do, unfortunately. Mostly American tourists shooting up innocent kindergarten children dressed in bowties clutching their Sesame street schoolbags.

Seriously though, Toronto, a city of about 3.5 million people (5 million if you include the suburbs), had 65 homicides in 2003. Compare that with the 599 homicides in Chicago in 2003, a city of 2.9 million people (about 10 million if you include the suburbs).

I guess now some right-wing nut is going to interject and surmise how there would have been 2000 murders in Chicago had people not been able to fend of homicidal maniacs with their handguns :-)

Possession of pot is being decriminalized (not law yet). Growing and selling it is still illegal, mainly due to threats from the US to close borders if pot is made legal here (well, not close borders but definitely make cross-border travel more difficult).

I don't get it. Didn't prohibition teach you guys a damn thing?

Not a chance! How do you think Canadian cops keep themselves financed? See our gov't isn't allowed to rack up a 399 Billion dollar deficit liks some other countries I know.

Though the thing you forgot to mention is that these murders are concentrated in the "ghettos" and government financed housings. There crime is in epidemic proportions compared to the rest of Chicago and the suburbs. Cops in Chicago also usually do their job and work on the tougher stuff even though they get caught in gang wars and get shot at by snipers! Chicago cops are tough and have it hard it is the suburban rent-a-cops here that will arrest you for having under 3 grams of pot (I know from personal experience).

There would have been a few more last time I was up there, but those little buggers move fast! I did manage to take out a Tickle-me-Elmo though while the little critter was on the run. One in one hundred shot I tell you!

To simplistic a reason, massive industrial facilities have ludicriously high electricity bills. The UE boys up there said the place had gaurds and that they could'nt/would'nt go anywhere near it.

The cops, Ontario Provincial Police, aren't saying. But I think it's a pretty safe bet that with as many as 50 people working there somebody blabbed or was overheard and the cops got enough info for a search warrant.
