allarounder provided some very valuable information on the last page of this thread, for those of us seeking to keep access open to Oak Flat. I do not view him as hostile to our efforts.

I intend to make sure that the NFS and Kennecott demonstrate to the public that allarounder's "stope and fill" method has been fully considered for the extraction of this ore. Perhaps a compromise will be possible.

Letter is sent.

How about a nomination to use this as the next topic of the week. This issue seems well suited for trying to get the site involved as much as possible.

Keep us posted.

We are off to a good start folks. I've already got a mess of folks on the contact list. Your letters and calls to the Forest Service will put them on notice that we want to be involved. I'm also in touch with the town of Superior to get their take on this. While mining dollars come and go tourist dollars tend to be more steady. When you visit QC and stop to buy gas, food, etc. Please let the establishment know you are a climber and ask them to help keep the climbing area open so you can keep on visiting their business.

I was on the Access Fund board for many years and will keep them informed of what is happening. They are a great bunch of folks with good resources. And now for a brief commercial message... if you are not a member of the Access Fund now would be a good time to join. In situations like this our "power" is in our numbers. They were right beside me all the years it took to reopen Pinnacle Peak.

And now back to our regular scheduled program.. go climbing and have fun!

I make these observations about QC. Argue with me if you want
Ok, i think i will...
In reply to:
-QC is the epicenter of central AZ climbing. It easily boasts the highest concentration of routes between Tucson's Lemmon and Flag's many sibling crags, and the highest concentration of bolt-protected routes and boulders in the Phoenix area as well. Likely more than any of the "other 20" sport destinations in the whole state.

-QC has routes of every grade and varied style. Again, a range broader than anything else I've seen in the state, aside from Lemmon.

-QC is closer and more practical to central AZ climbers than the bolts of Jacks, which are about 3 hours away, and really damn cold this time of year.

-PBC. 'nuff said.

QC is not my local or #1 crag, but it's a critical climbing resource in Arizona. Just in case people didn't know that ;)

Here's a few facts too
Queen Creek sucks dead donkey co*k.
yes it has a high concentration of bolted routes - and the vast majority of which are boring, samey and lame.
Oh its one sharp pocket to the next, and the next, step up on sharp pocket and repeat, ad nauseum.
The only route i ever came close to falling asleep on was a route at the pond.
Varied style???? - you must be joking. There's no variety, come to queen creek for a weekend, then dont bother coming back. keep going to lemmon or flag where you might encounter something called an edge,or a sloper or maybe this mythical pinch that i hear exists outside Q.C. word.
Yes there's some cool boldering, if you can climb for more than 30 minutes without loosing all skin on your fingers.
But as i heard someone say on another forum once, you dont see visiting euros making the trek to oak flats to bolder, why?, cos its its a moderately decent area - at best.
I say ,mine the whole thing, close it down, starting with the abysmal mine area and magma gardens, moving swiftly on to the wonderful trad nightmare chosspile that is the little england wall.
id rather go to the gym.
P.s Jack's is beautiful in the cold, its climbable all year round if one wasnt so afraid of climbing when its dropped below 70 degrees.
Peace out Arizona Friends!

Wow, John. Advocating closing a popular climbing area so it can be mined in your first post on our website. Can't wait to hear what other profound insight you have. Please post again soon so we can get a real feel for what an ignorant jackass you are.

It's no Hueco, but I think you'll find few who will agree with your rather jaded assessment. But let's say it's all choss, that still doesn't mean that mining the area is a good solution for anyone who uses the area for it's current primary purpose -- climbing, hiking, and camping. Careful what you wish for, John. They could find gold under your favorite climbing area next. I hope the rest of the climbing community would be more caring and thoughtful about defending your cherished crags than you are about Queen Creek.

Ed

PS -- I have a 22 ft one.

While I agree with you on many points Arizona Rocks, I would rather see the place stay open for many reasons. Here are a few:

1-It has a lot of easy routes for those who are learning
2-It is close to Phoenix, less travel for those who live there
3-It keeps newbies away from areas I like to climb at
4-It keeps a lot of people, in general, away from areas I like to climb at.
(3 and 4 are the most crucial points by the way)
5-It is really warm during winter and typically stays free from weather more than other areas.
6-It keeps the bouldering people in one area where we can keep an eye on them :D
7-Easy for quick half day trips for those in Phoenix
8-There are probably more that I can't think of right now. Anyone else?

One more thing Arizona Rocks as I noticed you "just" joined (and for all people who do this), why not use your regular screen name and/or put in identifying information. Are people really that scared to speak their mind and let other people know their beliefs?

Opinion? Fine. But you expressed much more than that. Your public apathy about the outcome is what strikes me. Even beyond apathy you support the worst possible outcome for the climbing community's access to the Queen Creek area. That's selfish, short sighted, and you can expect to catch some crap for it.

In reply to:
Well now Epic Ed, if my assessment is to be "jaded" this suggests that it has been shared many times before, and thus making it a reasonably popular assertion.

Uh, no. "Jaded" as used in this sentence means cynically or pretentiously callous. Let me know if I can clear anything else up for you.

Well i think ive been banned from posting here so ill try this:
it was never my intention to hijack this thread.i was merely objected to someone spouting about how wonderfulk Q.C is.
i wont be posting anymore on this topic.good luck to all you in your attempts to keep it open.
And wpy - its punk ass *bolderer*.
word.
I am not an active member of rc.com hiding under a different name, but i do check in here regularly so look at photo's and get some route information. the vast majority of forum posts here i find to be incredibly lame. boldering.com is where its at.word.
so there's no posing going on here..
as i said, im outta here. good luck with the campaign

Don't want your respect, ed is a standup guy, and I was just messing with him.

Nah, Bill, it's his bad assed alter ego. He doesn't want to post that kind of commentary under his usual member name. I understand -- it's not every member that's willing to stand behind such strong commentary. But yeah, the angry boulding guy theme is pretty out of line for a thread like this where the majority of the climbing community is genuinely concerned about permanently losing a popular climbing resource. I'm not a hugh fan of QC, myself. I rarely clip bolts, and can't stand bouldering, but the place holds significant importance to several multi-use recreational groups. I think his comments were pretty juvenile, classless, and inappropriate for a thread created to specifically call attention to the access threat that looms at this area. You're not a fan of the area? Neither am I, but I'm not enough of a prick to hope it gets taken away from those who do.

OK, who's the pussie who's posing as arizona_rocks? You're obviously from here chief, since you know how much flailing goes on on Strawberry Razzle Tea. Don't forget Moon Floss just a few yards up.

Please, if you are sincere, use your gift of eloquence to submit a letter to the Access Fund, USFS, and Kennecott Copper as to why sucking donkey cock is a sufficient reason for mining. I'll even help you proofread it!

Nice, I likes it. although I do have a hard time believing that this dude is not posting only to provoke a reaction from all of us who happen to care about the thousands of hours climbers spent putting up routes in QC. I just find it hard to believe that someone would rather see a strip copper mine in place of a group of crags that can be enjoyed by all.
