Bush's plan for illegal immigrants is one of the few things I like about his presidency. Though he did it for political reasons, it goes a long way toward mending recently damaged ties to our southern neighbor.
Point 2: historically, America has always been at its most secure when it's borders are more open. This gives us a offering in return for them "signing in", which is what Bush has wanted all along. And, it gives the DOJ an iron-clad justification to deport any unregistered, unworking folks loitering about.
Some would gripe that these folks will take jobs from Americans in an already jobless recovery, but these guys aren't exactly coming in and taking all the high-end security-cleared IT jobs; they're picking fruit and cleaning bathrooms, for crissake. I don't exactly see all the out-of-work Americans lining up to do these very necessary jobs.
Hell yes, I hate Shrubbie. He represents everything loathful about a party that is already pretty loathsome to most Dems. But this is a win-win situation.
