My only suggestion is if we are going to go to such expense. Make sure it's one of the bigger nicer gyms in the area.

I'm heading to Reading with some friends tomorrow (saturday) to climb at Cliffhangers... We'll probably get there around 11 and leave when we get tired...

Hey PA PEEPS, what's up? I wanted to know about the climbing trips us PA people have taken. Let's here all about them. My trips include Central Cali to such places as Sacramento, Tahoe and San Francisco and I have bouldered on the beachers of La Jolla in Southern Cali. I have been all over Utah. I took a trip to St. George and Zion and loved it so much I got a job in Zion for last spring and summer and lived out there for 5 months waiting tables and guiding. I drove X country and spent time in Moab, Nevada, CO in Rifle, Estes Park and other areas in Rocky Mountain. I stopped in Missouri, climbed a few buildings in Illinois and hit some stuff in NY, MD and other areas in PA. Zion was amazing. It was wonderful to live in the canyon all summer. I learned so much. Moab was terrific too. I will think about some great details and stories and post some stuff from my trips, but lets here about all your adventures.

yeah..after checking out PAC.org I was pleasantly surprised to read that the PAC is reorganized w/ new leaders (climbinganne are you in on it? gail?)
I'm excited for what is to come!

ive only been climbing a year now, and although i havent had the opertunities that some have had, i think that the climbing that i have done has been memorable and self satisfying . I've done sport in central pa, and i've bouldered in pa, md and puerto rico ( on vacation i found a boulder and dicked around on it, but im still putting it on my list of places i've climbed haha). I CAN'T WAIT for this spring when i can hit up some great new places to climb, and i can't wait to take some nice long trips and get out of central pa!

so far outside of pa ive only climbed at the gunks and red rocks, nevada movin to texas though in the spring 8)

yeah... a gym.
On another note, I'm excited for whats to come with the PAC, after the rough year they had last year I figured that would be it for them. But, its exciting to see others stepping up to the plate.
IMO, the biggest challenge remains representing the entire state. Hopefully, activities can be organized outside of Central PA (Pittsburgh, SE PA, NE PA).

Wow, that is a tough one. I am assuming you mean alpine style snow climbs. Could probably come up with some short ones. Maybe you could do laps. I was thinking about that the other day when I was jogging up hill with a 50lb pack (slow jog). Not a bad idea for alpine training.

I believe Dontfall mentioned organizing a cleanup of the Emmaus boulder site, near Allentown. I've been there once and definitely agree that the trail could use some clearing and whatnot. As far as I know (and Chris, I know you are reading this, so feel free to clarify) he is in the process of talking to everyone he needs to in order to make sure we don't step on anyone's toes.

I'm very pleased that your outlook toward the PAC has changed. I know we're fighting an uphill battle to improve public opinion, but we're working on it! I fully agree with you concerning the challenges ahead, and we do plan to address them AFTER the Governor Stable competition. Right now, that is consuming all our efforts. What needs to be understood is that the four active PAC members all live in the immediate Harrisburg area. Therefor, we are not totally on the pulse of climbing in the rest of the state and cannot adequately respond to the needs of climbers all over. In the very near future, we will be seeking motivated representatives in all regions of the state. It will only be through them that we will be able to truly become a state-wide organization.
In the meantime, I haven't seen your name on the list of registered competitors, Randy! What's taking you so long???

Hate to make excuses, but my shoes are shot right now, haven't climbed since November, and my first GS comp was so embarassing that I didn't even turn in my sheet. That being said, GS hosts some of the best bouldering I've ever touched.
Question for you Josh: will the comp price include the pass to boulder at GS for the rest of the year? The first year is was no. (Everyone thought it did) Last year, it was a yes.
So if it doesn't I guess I have to choose btwn comp or PAC membership to climb at GS every other time.
Also, while I have your attention... what if one saturday in the fall, there would be a GS "Open House" where anyone could come climb for a day, feel it out, and then once they see whats there, it would turn into a "membership drive" for sure. (The scheduling would depend b/c I know that you can't climb at GS so...maybe an intro 1/2 yr rate, until they can renew it in the spring)... I haven't worked all the bugs out yet, but the crux of my idea is to open up GS for free...which brings in the hesitant climbers, and then they'll pay to come back. (Sort of a free sample, if you will :) )

Yes, the entry fee for the competition will include access to the boulders for the year. Unlike last year, you will receive your access card on the day of the competition, or even before if you desire!
As far as the fall...we are working on ideas for some kind of fall event, but that is all still up in the air right now...
