I don't know if anyone has made any posts on this or not so oh well. I was at the Ouray Ice fest this weekend and went buy omega's tent and saw a new bread i guess you could say of cams. It is almost like its 3 cams in one. starts out as about a 1 camalot then goes to a .75 then to like a .5 all this in one trigger pull. Any one else see this or heard of this. I could not take my eyes off of it. It was so complex at least for me

Yes they do sound pretty shwanky. They are called Trango Maxcams and are so awesome that there are already several threads about them.

Check out this one... http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=44062&postdays=0&postorder=asc&topic_view=&start=0

No these cams are brand new buy omega and the one they had was anly a prodotype. It had three different cam sizes on one stem so you would go from like a #1 camalot to a #.75 camalot then to a #.5 camalot all in one pull

Both companies have a new mega-expansion cam. Both are very cool, both are very different.

:D
I work for Omega Pacific, and was at Ouray Ice Fest this past week. After almost 2 years of development, we showed our new camming device called the "Link Cam" (Patent Pending, Trademark) there.

I can not say to much about it at this point, as the device is still in a prototype stage.

We set out to design a camming device that had the most camming range available, and remained functional. The result was the "Link Cam", a cam, with unique features that allow the cam to cover the expansion range of 4 "normal" cams.

The original idea came from Greg Lowe, who is on our Design Team. The idea has been worked on by all of our Engineers and Product Development Team.

:D Sorry, but at this time we don't have any pictures of the "Link Cam's" ready to be published at this time.

Drop us a line at info@omegapac.com and request to be put on the "Link Cam" mailing list.

Are you kidding me?!?! Buy them now, AND later. Sheesh....you wont understand until it's bitten you. Youll have no choice. They call to you, whisper sweet nothings in your ear....lick you...uhm..ok..sorry..I'll stop. I REALLY need to seek help. Gear is evil!! (maybe if I say it enough I'll start to believe it)

Don't bother with the flex cams, get camalot's. And Aliens.

I also saw this new cam from Omega Pacific. And Although it is truly an engineering marvel, the thing is damn heavy. They'll either have to find away to lighten it or it will suck.
Keep this in mind folks, you still need enough gear to protect yourself well. Sure this thing will cover the range of 3 cams- but you're not going to carry 3 cams instead of 9! (or whatever number you carry) So guess what? If you carry 9 of those bad boys you're uping the weight of your rack several pounds.
It's neat but probably not the "holy grail".

Funny you should mention camalots. The big selling point from BD is their expansion range. But they are among the heaviest cams on the market.

The thing is, the new Trango maxcams will fit the placement of a comparable sized camalot, fit all of the next two sizes of camalot down, and still weigh less than said camalot. Or so I hear from folks that should know.

Whatd'yasaytaTHAT?

Me, I say they're worth a look, and kudos to Mr. Daly for bringing such innovations to us climbers on a commercial scale.

Brutus :)

I knew someone was going to say something about the camalots.

It wasn't the Trango Max cams I was talking about. I saw them this weekend and thought they looked pretty darn good(eventhough I'll probably never buy them!)
I was talking about the Trango FLEX cams, which have a VERY limited range in my book, and are just plain funky.
The Trango MAX cams are quite innovative and may very well revoltionize caqm construction.
What I WAS talking about are the New cams from Omega Pacific. Which cover the range of probably 3? Like sized cams, but have ALOT of metal on them(and a TON of moving parts) and are WAY heavy.

Malcom Daly has been putting new and revolutionary ideas on the market for years and does deserve much thanks for this. Hell he even keeps his price's down! You just have to get over that whole made in Korea thing!

If you want to use the lightest cams with the most range, look into Wild country Friends. Which are a close second to Camalots in my book.

C'mon Omega folks, if yer putting it out on display at your booth you can certainly put a sneak peak snapshot up for us somewhere! C'mon, Trango did it, (hint hint). That or someone else with a cell phone camera ought to take a pic and PM it to me. Some of us just can't make it all the way to CO for these things. :-)
