There are a few out there, I am from England but moved to the USA when I was a teenager (a long time ago). I didn't climb when I was a kid there, but I understand that there is good climbing and climbers there.
It's always nice to talk to people from home.

Hey Beta
Well can you believe it..its the 5th today..its the evening and there are fireworks going off everywhere man...its bonfire night in England...
Anyhow 4 days since I made this post .. I guess not to many English folk out there..not in this cyber patch anyhow..I know there not on the rock as its too dark and too cold man....where are they..lost in space somewhere..out there ...
Anyhow I guess you an ex-pat of sorts I guess..were you born in England?
Im born and bred in Brighton, still living here having a great time...would be much better if we had great awesome crags close to home..but thats ok..theres enough to keep you fit. So Beta my friend..Hi and How do ya Do Mate!

Wow!!!!! I miss bonfire night, i think it,s the smell of the bonfires and eating treacle toffee, I also remember getting in trouble for trying to take anything that would burn out of the house to add to the bonfire.
I was born and bred in Preston Lancs., but we moved to Birmingham a couple of years before emigrating (Hey all you Yanks, ask us why we have bonfire night, or sometimes called Guy Fawkes night, did I spell that right? it's been a long time).

"Remember, remember, the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason, and plots....."
Bonfire Night a.k.a. Guy Fawkes Night. A night commemorating the discovery of the "gunpowder plot". It typically involves fireworks, and a "guy" that is burned on a bonfire.
In 1605 the Yeoman of the Guard (the Beefeaters) discovered plans to blow up the English Houses of Parliament when King James I opened them. The fireworks represent the gunpowder that would have been used. I'm not sure of the significance of the bonfire. The burning of the "guy" represents the death of the ringleader of the plot, Guy Fawkes. His fate was execution for treason against the King and elected government but not by burning. His execution was by a much more gruesome method known as "hang, draw, and quartering".
Step 1: hoist and hang by the neck until nearly dead then bring down.
Step 2: draw the shape of the cross on the torso, sometimes revealing internal organs.
Step 3: tie arms and legs to four separate horses and have them pull in four directions, thereby quartering and finally killing the condemmed.
And you thought the English were civilized?
Yeah there are ex-pats around, I've been in Canada for over 10 years now. I guess rc.com is primarily north american but it's also great to get participation from back home and elsewhere around the world.

Yeah Beta..you spelt 'Guy Fawkes' just fine..
and the celebrations officially over..but those fireworks are still going and will probably continue for a couple more nights..
And nights now .. it really sucks..gets dark at 5ish now..cold damp..man..thats England for you..evenings spent now on the climbing walls..or in the gym...but on the rock at weekends if its not too wet....
Yeah man..but spring to look forward too..possible week trip to Spain in a week..exciting...the rock beckons...yeah it ain't all bad..
And a message to 'fiend' if you ever check back into this post or anyone else..

I'm a brit, kinda. I was born in London but move to the states when I was 3. I have only been back a few times. Don't remember much, no bonfire night.

Live in surrey and theres no climbing for miles!At uni in wales though wheres theres plenty of rock to haul yourself up!

november 5th is my birthday. I have fond childhood memories of blowing up my toys with crackers. And my model planes really did fly woth a rocket strapped to them...Then I'd get a rocket from Mum

Hi all
I grew up in England too, right outside London, though I was born in Australia. Been in the States since I was 16. I recently noticed fares under $300 to Heathrow so I'm starting to seriously think about taking a little trip All this talk about bonfire night brought on quite a wave of nostalgia . . .
