I like whatever.... for competition, if it is difficulty, I like ambient or something very chill, if it is for speed, drum n' bass, but for whatever climbing at the gym, just typical radio music is fine with me!

I climb at the gym run by my schools outing cub. So, I pretty much listen to whatever I want when im there. Not enough people are assertive enough to ask me not to play it, no matter how bad they may think it is.

I manage a gym when I am their its 100% heavy metal or hard rock and if some of the climbers talk me into it a little alternative, when Im not their it's bluesgrass all the time. How people climb to bluegrass is beyond me.

This is a particular sore point for me and my gym. I love my gym but every now and then they decide to turn the radio to Christian Rock stations and I can barely stomach it. I have nothing against being religious but I cannot handle it being forced on me while I'm trying to focus on my route or workout. I've actually left because of it.

Man... I thought I was the only one that was being driven batty by that stuff. I have actually dropped hints to them when they are playing it. Nothing is really worse than continuosly hearing the same song played by 15different bands that would not have a shot in the world of playing any other type of music!

2 bands whose songs seem to come on quite often are Radiohead & Tool. Which is quite nice....although Radiohead does'nt exactly get you fired up. I would have to say that Tool is my favorite climbing music : )

My gym plays pretty much anything. Reggae, country (but not often), current rock, classic rock, not much pop, and metal. The only time it's hip-hop is when the boulder problem setter is setting routes, and he plugs his CD player into the sound system. And if you really don't like what's playing, there is a separate sound system in the each of the two climbing rooms, so there is always different music playing.

The best music I've heard in a gym consistently is in Vertical Dreams in NH, they have a Bad Religion CD they play, it always gives me something to look forward to when I go there.

My gym plays the electronic sounds too much. I'd shred much harder to some 80's metal or some classic rock.

Synthesized music just doesn't get me stoked
