You just need to buy a small file, called a flat bastard file (i'm not kidding). You then slide this back and forth over the edges that you wish to sharpen, being careful to maintain the original angles that were there. If you want to go crazy, you might also get a narrow sharpening stone, and use this after to put a razor edge on you equipment.

Bastard files are best used in a motion that moves then across and up the surface you want to sharpen in one motion. If you don't see metal shavings coming off you aren't sharpening it.

Hammer, that's a pretty cool link.

I would add one thing though. To really get the screw working sweet, it's important to have all the teeth the same length. I sharpen my screws in a very similar fashion and even use a heavy polishing wheel on the outside edges on occasion. I also check the rails (part that holds the screw in to the ice) for burs and carefully file them off as well as wire-wheeling any rust off. Carefully remove any burs on the inside diameter where the base of cutting disc was used. When I'm done with all of this, I spray the outside and inside with silicone spray and let them dry.

I generally respray them every couple of outings as they just go in nicer.

One thing to keep in mind is that I'm a jeweler and have all of the necessary tools and experience to make this an easier job. My screw generally look like new when I'm done no matter how badly they were grounded out.

If anybody is really having any trouble with this, PM me and we can work something out on price per screw(depending on how badly they are messed up) and I'll fix 'em fer ya. Now that I think about it, I can also email you a couple of pictures of my finished work if you want.

Who knows, maybe this could become a business or something  ?!?

Good Luck
-Jason :D

I'll get some pics together and post them in the next few days. I'm actually about to start on a few more screws that I'm doing for a friend of mine. I'll show you the before, during and after shots. They're old-school Chouinard screws that were not in the best shape. I plan to make them look and work like new. So it should be a good test of me putting my money where my mouth is!

P.S. The "adrenaline junkie" part of my description is one of many titles that RC.com adds to your username depending on how many times you've posted on the site. "Red-point maniac" is another example.
