This christmas break I visited my dad (ammon mcneely). We met up is my dads buddy josh and we went exploring the beaches in San Fran. We went different beaches and found places to boulder in all of them. On the last beach we visited we found a bouldering area near a cave. He started to climb it and pulled of a huge chunk that almost crushed my dad and josh. I guess josh decided to name the type of climbing we were doing. "Chossy Death By the Sea" was the name he dubbed it. So I guess the question that this whole story was leading up to is simply.............. Have you ever done and chossy death by the sea climbing and what kind of fun yet sketchy climbs have you run into. Go Big*****

I might have actually been to where you're talking about in San Francisco--I was bouldering at a beach near Petaluma, and once I got up about 6 feet, I realized that it was totally crumbly! That sure blew my day of bouldering...

This is a very insensitive post. Some of us know people that have died. You should not make fun of death because you mught be hurting someone right now that knows somone that dies. I think the mods should remove this because it is very insensitive to dead people that have died and the people that still love them. If you ever had someone that you know die on choosy rocks on from the ocean you would understand. This really touches a nerve and it should be removed because of sensitivities that will be offended. The word death is very shocking and hostile because there is nothing more hostile or violent that the termination of life. It is hard to believe that this site would allow insensitive hostile violent talk about death and dying. Even though all of you will die I think you should not talk about it because it can be depressing. All of you will be dead and then you will realize that it should never echo off the front page because it sould hurt someone's feelings really bad and make them think of other bad things and that is not a good thing.

In reply to: come to minnesota, we don't have see, but we have some stellar limestone if your into that. Go climb up at the North Shore areas, such as Palisade head. I've heard stories of FA folks going down with a crowbar to remove mini-fridge-sized death blocks. Granted, it's not by the sea, but these climbs plummet straight down about 30 meters or more into Lake Superior, which can be as worse as a raging ocean at times (and colder!).

come to garden of the gods in colorado springs instead of chossy death by the sea, its chossy death in front of gawking tourists. I had a flake the size of me come off in front of about 20 of em when I was about 50 feet off the deck. Nearly creamed my belayer. Could have been very, very bad. At least medical attention would have been quick

Come up to Oregon and Washington, the land of Choss by the Sea (and in the mountains, the valleys, the forests) It really is not that uncommon for a new route up here to be recognized by the immense pile of dirt and choss that is setting at the bottom of the rock.
