what is the ideal length for slinging hooks? how much do you start with and how big does the sling end up? do you girth hitch the hook with the webbing side into the rock? just got a couple of hooks to play with and about 6 feet of webbing... looking for the length to cut the webbing and how long the sling ends up... thanks

Pete covers that in one of his posts. Not sure where it's at in the index... Basically, most of us use 9/16th" tubular webbing. You keep the loop very short -- as short as possible -- and use an over hand knot pushed through the hole in the hook. The tail of the knot should be nearly as long as the loop. No time to find the photos/more details tight now, but I'll dig it up later. Ed

thanks ed... after a half hour of sifting through petes stuff on the link, i think i get it.... one question... with such a short loop, sounds like it would be easy for the webbing to pull out, no?
