Looking for recommendations on Gray's and Torrey's. Do you have a preference and why. Looking to do in July. Thanks for any input.

Yea, do 'em both on the same day! Its only going to be an addition of a mile (or so) and 600' of so of vertical.

Yep, both in one day. I think I went up Torrey's first and then hit Gray's. Start by headlamp. Be prepared for company and afternoon storms in July.

Skip the tourist trail and climb Kelso Ridge. It's a fun, easy alternative to the legions of day hikers.

Do Kelso Ridge on Torreys. There will be no crowds after you turn off the standard trail. There might be some snow on there in July but when I did it last September it was dry. Some people rope up for the class 4 crux because of the exposure but your mileage may vary. A helmet might be advisable if you're behind other groups as there is some loose rock in places. Descend the standard route. Be sure to bring a can of mace to fight off the crowds on Grays. Another nice alternative to the standard route is to start at Loveland Pass and hike over Grizzly Peak and ascend the east ridge of Torreys. It's a bit more strenuous (12 miles round trip, 5000 ft elevation gain), stays above 12000 ft the whole way, but will be completely devoid of crowds until you hit the summit of Torreys. I've done this route twice and each time I didn't see a single person until I reached the summit. On the first hill above the pass, there's a fantastic Kodak spot from which to watch the sun rise. - Dave

Or, if you want to get looks from tourons, leave the TH at 2-3 PM (on a nice day - like in September!!!), climb Kelso, watch the sun set from Grays, then cruise back to your car and be eating at Jose O'Shea's by 10.

I'm not surprised Kelso, came into conversation, which I do appreciate. It was another thought. We'll probably wrap all within a couple days (or maybe a day.) Where would you recommend access and parking overnight, if needed. Doing the old truckin' in style thing. I'm not surprised "geo" was the first to answer either. Free drafts in July, afterword, on me, for the best recommendations.

the first couple of miles on the main trail is fairly mellow and you can jog up to the steeper part of the trail..
