In reply to: I like the comments you get while slacklining: "Are you training for the circus?" Reply, "Yes I am. You ever hear of Circ de Solei?" Their reply, dumbfounded, "Are you really trainging for the circus?" You should have said, "No. But I've always wanted to see them". Keep 'em guessing, I say.
In reply to: In reply to: I think something along the lines of, "Baby, I'd like to boulder you", but I wasn't that flattered. LOL! you should have said you were too juggy  but i'll stop before this gets dirty... Oh well then let ME contiunue..... Think about it...... crimps (collarbone), jugs (I'm guessing you figured this out already), then there's the ever popular cracks and.......... monos.

^lol!^ the biggest compliment I've gotten wasn't even a compliment - i set a problem, and a guy who is arguably THE best climber at our very small gym walked over to it acting all cocky, and then couldn't send it after many tries! Ah, I wish I had been there to see it!

Under the theory it's not what's said but how it is said. Nice lead! If your second either looks and sounds terrified and or at me like I'm totally nuts I consider that a fairly big complement. If it comes out causual I have to wonder if they're just making sure that I'll remember they get the next lead

I'll take a stab at this... I have a photo of me standing at the edge of what I think was Dewey Point in Yosemite. My back is to the camera. Two different people have, on seperate occasions, given the following reactions... "Oh my god... you look like The Hulk" & "Wow... you look like Rambo" I wish I could still say I had back muscles that deserved such a reaction, but surgery and the following layover made them all atrophy. Some people were trying to walk on my slackline, and when it was my turn, one of them said, "Watch... this is the real master".

"You win the Golden Wheelbarrel award for that lead" The wheelbarrel being in reference to device used to haul around big nuts. It's a compliment that my brother and climbing partner throw back and forth after scary trad leads.

yeah, I've gotten the "do you work here" question a couple of times while setting problems. Of course, I also got asked that the other day at a hardware store because I was wearing a red shirt.

given to me: I was getting a tr belay at tahquitz from an old-school climber giving a lead clinic. I think of him as the sergeant. so I was doing a simulated lead of a climb about at my edge w/ a couple dicey moments. afterwards he says, "I like how you climb. I like your style." well, I climb like an old man basically (no offense to you old men) so I have to milk that for all it's worth. given to someone: "you're a good partner" b/c that takes into consideration so much more than how hard someone climbs. it's having the whole package of someone you want belaying and to spend your time with.

Are you a professional? Asked by some tourist who watched me send some over-rated 11. What did you climb today? Boardwalk  That was you!!!! The best, best, best compliments all come from the parking lot of Devils Tower. I had a woman ask me if she could take pictures of the back of my truck. Sleeping bags still rolled out, gear, trash, cans, shit all over. She was mesmerized. I had a biker who could have EASILY bit me in half look at me with all the respect of a god when he asked me for a narrative of Tulgey Wood (maybe I embellished  ). My first trip to the Tower I climbed Wiessners, it was my limit. Some old hard looking dude later told me that was a proud line, that made me feel like a real climber (in fact I was a real gumby)

After a year of regular climbing, I was traversing in the gym one day when I slipped off the wall and these utter newbies came over and gave me some beta... ...wait, that's not flattering at all. Nevermind.

Any climber who wants an ego boost should go there. Millions of midwestern families looking at you like you're some astronaut or something. Be prepared for a lot of the same dumb questions over and over. My partner and I had to hide out of site of the trail just to keep from getting interrupted.

The most flattering compliments I hear come from within, when I'm on lead and I stick a hard move without falling or backing down. Being able to appreciate something I did myself means far more to me than any compliment I could get from fellow climbers since I am my WORST critic. But it’s always nice to hear praise from my partners as well.

In reply to: you should probably turn around and don't look when a girl goes to pee and the gloves come off truly awsome, trust me it means something coming from me, that was epic anyway, haven't gotten alot of climbing compliments, I'm 6'3" and my arms and legs are long even for someone my hieght (and I'm the worst basketball player I know, go figure), so usually people just jeer and hiss because I have this reach over the crux move entirely trick, not a crowd pleaser, I earn my keep as a pack mule though, as long as I've got something to eat I'll walk just about anyone into the ground

Far and away the most flattering comment I've recieved was when the father of the best climber in the gym (he's on the US Junior National Team) asked me if I would commit 3 nights a week to start training with them. It was the end of summer and I was heading back to school in a week so I had to turn it down but it made me feel really warm and fuzzy inside.
