What is the best gidebook to purchase, i would like the most comprehensive one, i.e. bouldering, sport and trad routes, included. let me know kids, thanks.

There is no truly comprehensive guidebook.
Currently you can purchase either a set of Alan Bartletts guidebooks which divides the park into 6 sections or Randy Vogels single volume guide. The Vogel guide is several years out of date but does contain some bouldering problems.
Randy is working on an updated guide for J-tree which will be divided up into 2 volumes. Volume 1 is expected to be out in the next few months.
I highly recommend waiting for the new guide.
For bouldering may I suggest the excellent Robert Miramontes guide recently published with many new problems and gps coordinates to help you find your way around.

We had the new guide on order from Barnes & Noble, but now they canceled the order since they said it's "not available." A few weeks ago they said it would be available March 2004.
Any update on when the "West" volume will be available?

He proabally had to re-write the camping section to reflect the new fee policy and the end of a glorious era of human existance, the free camping days of J-Tree.

That's bad advice. That book is loaded with errors. Try one of the Vogel guides. Too bad you can't get the Bartlett guides anymore. They were hands down the most thorough.
