Who knows. I did all of the souths hardest problems so long ago that I cant even remember where they were. Georgia or alabama maybe?

Boone's got a couple tough one's too.

check out www.seclimbers.org

also, it depends on what you're weakest at, slopers, tweaky fingers and laser ledges, slab/friction... I think HP40 is hard for all the slopers. Some find Boat Rock hard for the laser little ledges. Some find Little Rock City hard because you MUST MUST MUST be well behaved or lose access for all of us. So, it depends.

Little Rock City. LRC is definitely the area with the highest concentration of hard problems. around 15 V7's, 10 V8's, 5 V9's, and a couple of V10's and V11's. Also there are many problems just waiting to be done and many that haven't even been found yet. I think this area definitely has the highest concentration of hard problems.

Nice try people but the hardest problems in the Southeast are found at Rumbling Bald. It has the most concentration of V9 and above routes around including several V13+ projects and more V10's than you can do

There are a few v12s and v13s in Boone (most were put up by James Litz). There are also many projects and tons of unrated sick-hard problems. There is a project that nobody can get on the Engine Block boulder at Grandmother Mtn. that even rappelled Sharma on his visit last Fall. It seems like lots of really good climbers come out of Alabama so im sure HP40 also has plenty of hard ones. Just check out www.ncbouldering.com or www.modump.com for more info.

the problem that chris got worked on. wasnt that full throttle the sit down start to throttle? I was pretty sure somebody did that thing. Otherwise I guess i dont really know much about boone or how many hard problems there are down there (im sure there are many), but LRC definitely has its share of hard problems. Many projects are still undone and there are still tons to be found there. between LRC, Rocktown, and HP40 i think LRC definitely has the most hard problems.

Rumbling Bald is probably the best. Other good places include:
Little Rock City, Horse Pens 40, and Boone North Carolina. Rocktown in Northwest Georgia also has tons of rock to be explored and climbed.

Sharma actually sent full throttle. The problem that I am talking about is just to the right of the throttle arete. Apparently, nobody has been able to get it yet (including sharma and litz). I am going to have to check out LRC. It looks like too cool of a place for me to not have gone to. Especially since I am sort of close to it.

That ALL depends on what you call hard son... Anywhere in the deep south you are gonna come acroos problems that aer harder than you can handle so come on down!!! Rocktown, Horse pens, Little rock city, There are probably 100 problems, at least, down here that are double digits and up. Come to any of these areas and be prepared for a good solid spanking!

How about this variation...

What area in the SE has the softest ratings?

The southeast used to have stout gradings, but since the LRC comp. Things went haywire. If you get a copy of the comp. guide then you can go there and send what they call v10 pretty easily, though this doesn't reflect the actuall grading of the problems, but you asked for the softest grades and that copy of the guide has the softest grades of anywhere in the world!!!

i think boat rock is hard but then im both new to bouldering and really bad at it the granite there is really sharp though but for me its 25 minutes from my house so while it may not be the best or hardest or whatever i think its great

Boat Rock has the softest ratings that I've been to. V4 at Boat Rock is like V2 at Rumbling Bald. HP40 is also a little softer than Rumbling Bald.

Grandmother Mtn. in Boone has some pretty stout ratings. There is a problem called Decepticon over there that is rated v2 that is, in my opinion harder than a few of the v4s I have done. I can usually climb at least a grade higher over at Rumbling Bald than I can at Grandmother. It doesent really matter though, I'm not climbing to make myself feel good using numbers.

I think Decepticons is just a very specific type of problem. It involves delicate slab moves and felt V2 to me, but I have climbed a number of slabs before. It may just not be your type of problem and therefore feels quite hard.

its hard for all the local climbers who put the guide together, and who can send v10 to rate problems v3-, and the hard ones had been sent by maybe 2 or 3 people beforehand.
especially at Little Rock City, where names and grades corresponding has just recently mattered. im pretty sure the dragonlady project and barndoor2000 make up for all the easy problems at LRC put together anyway.

None of the really super hard stuff in Boone eliminates holds. I havent found many actual named problems around here that does. I have never been to any other major southern boulderfield, but Rumbling Bald isnt the only place with hard problems without elimates.

Sharma flashed full throttle. I talked to Litz this winter about the project beside throttle he says it does not go. I have always heard decepticon was a 4.
