Nice work jooky!!! I remember you telling me about it once, I had no idea it was that big and elaborate. Your parents must be pretty cool letting you build that in the backyard.

Oh my. Sure the neighborhood police won't have a problem with that? I hope not. You could almost host birthday parties for kids on that thing and pay for your road trips!

Congrats and enjoy!

It's a great wall where you can put some more holds from time to time. I wish I had half of it...

Good lord, I'm shocked you didn't need a building permit for that! All jokes aside, that is one nice wall you built. I like the one adjustable wall on the hinges. And I hate to be the critic, but I just can't help myself...you should of put more overhanging angles in some parts that ended up vertical, even if it was just a little bit. I learned about that from past wall building experiences, but you can always fix it! Seriously though, nice thing you got going on there.

Now all you have to do is spend more time on it than you did building it and you will be one badass climbing monkey.
Also i hope is dry where you live because that plywood will start to peel and warp once moisture gets in.

That's really cool Jooky, but why not just be honest and stop toying with the rest of us; call it your climbing tower. It is a little more than the average wall. Great job though.

Yeah, I'm a bit proud of it :D. It cost a pretty penny to build too. And buying holds for something that big takes some $$$.
To answer your questions, the main supports are six 20 ft 4x6's just in a concrete foundation. The rest of the framework was built off that. Btw, I hired contractors to do this for me. As for the plywood, it's treated to handle the weather, but we are going to put texturized paint on it as soon as we can. No, we didn't need a permit and yes I need more holds :P. It has as much vertical as it does primarily because of space issues and my parents wanted it to be possible for people other than me to use too, some of what may look like vert in the pics is actually 15 degree overhang. Glad you all like it, I know I do :D.

thomasribiere: Brown's Point is maybe a 15 minute drive from my house.

Drool drool...

I dig it, can you post some more specifics about the pilings, the number of T-nuts, how you set your chains, time spent on it, total material costs, etc?

Now you have absolutely no excuse to climb:

Diarrhea? Don't sweat it! You are a mere 30 feet away from a toilet (and if you DO have an accident, the super absorbtion sand at the botom of the wall can help you w/ cleanup!

Raining outside? No worries! Just have your belayer wear a poncho and get out your double dry. You've got a canpoy!

All your clothes dirty? No problem! Put on your harness and go climb nude in your backyard! When you fall try to go arse to the wall or the term raspberry nads will have significant new meaning! You are on private property!

Awesome wall man!

Dude.... That's pretty beotchin' You mos def need more holds, but you know that, but that sucker is a thing of beauty. Good building techniques and design.

I gotta give mad props to some people that kick a$$ in this situation:

1) Your parents: let's face it, they rule! Not no way or how would mine let me build something like that in the backyard.

2) The zoning/building associations involved for either sheer stupidity in their lack of even making you have a permit (!!!!). Or their incredible acceptance of something this rightous. Right On!!! Again, my hometown you're lucky if you can put a flamingo out in your yard.

Have fun with your new wall!!!

I would never be allowed (zoning) to put up something like that. Hell, I needed a building permit to REPLACE my stockade fence panels!

Very cool.
Now you need to start experimenting with hand made holds.
