Has anyone out there used a gri-gri to tighten and hold the rope when tightening the pullies? I have a bootys gri-gri that I'm thinking about setting up in this way

I have used it for this purpose before. But a word of warning. One day I was practicing making tensioning/hauling systems in my backyard and pulled it to tight with a 12:1 and I had to hammer the cam part back down to free it. (Couldn't pull it back with the lever.) The grigri is fine and functioning but it was a bit scary.

It's been done before many times. As noted in the previous scenario a release hitch might be a good idea if your putting high tension on it. See http://www.wanderingphotographer.com/slack_pages/slackline_systems/three-to-one-with-release.htm for putting a release hitch in a 3:1 or 9:1.

I've not tried it yet (just got my gri-gri the other day), but remember a grigri doesn't lock under slower/softer pulls so you might have to assist it in locking (?)
