Who caused it and why, specifically? I mean, they are both words, found em right there in the dictionary. Nevada has legal ones (whorehouses) so it must be a real word. DMT

I'm also curious, but in an I really don't need an answer sort of way. I was looking for that thread for a while, before I finally realized the name had been changed. drkodos' thread title is a long-standing gunks saying that I also remember from way back. Quite literally, a piece of climbing history has been edited. (Just to point out: Censorship has its place, even here, I think, but this seems excessively prudish. OK, I'm done.)

well, since the omniscient powers of the site seem to be incredibly concerned with our input and concerns, I would just like to add my voice of dissent here, and make it known that, if the title truly was changed/edited, I wholeheartedly disagree. there, I feel much better. nothing like expressing your opinion, right? I'm sure this thread will change the overall policy of this site, and I'm glad to be of help.

When I saw the original title, I knew exactly what the thread would be about. I thought it served the purpose of a title quite well. I'm disappointed that someone took offence to a saying with deep roots to the climbing culture. There are route names in the routes data base that are much more offensive, should those be renamed?

While the title wasn't offensive, some were concerned that a filter at somebody's work might prevent them from viewing the site. It was a fair concern.

I checked with top flight software, internet and network people. They said that was a ridiculous concept, and was not the case. ANd, if it could be the case, why not let that happen first before we overreact to it, eh? What a bunch of BS PC rationalization. The truth is that someone had their sensitivities bristled.

Also, I was told the problem was with a school, not a workplace filter. Apparently one of the highschools has a filter that might ban this word. Either way, this is a banal and trite excuse. Why encourage workers or students to slack off? So what if a highschooler can't log on while in school. Or is it just that the site really does want a community of wanks, poseurs and wannabees? For that is always the argument. It is always about "protecting" newbies, isn't it. What a crock. All part of the fantasy that climbing is safe. The hypocrisy and lack of consistant integrity may fool most here, but we can all clearly see the little man behind the curtain frantically trying to hide himself once more. For shame. Anyone ever want to get it one for real, and do some real climbing, you knowwhere to find me. The rest of you interent wannabees can suck my B.com....

I'm so sick of this need to be "correct". I'm PlSSED that somone changed the title - I love that quote and thought the post had been deleted. I encourage everyone else to pursue their freedom of speech and say "hey, this is pathetic." we shouldn't have to walk on eggshells. Everyone has been insulted in some way or another, grow up and let it roll off your back - and anyone that was insulted by that HISTORICAL QUOTE needs to get off their high horse and spend some time in the real world. PEACE

In reply to: In reply to: While the title wasn't offensive, some were concerned that a filter at somebody's work might prevent them from viewing the site. It was a fair concern. Who? Who is this someone and why can't that person stand up and be counted? DMT Because the site does not work that way. Instead, it encourages cowardice and going behind people's backs and poor rationalizations that are not based on realities. Then all the mods and admins sit behind closed doors and "discuss" what path they will take, all the while paying lip service to the site being a community. They pretend to embarce the concept of soft security, but are doing so in name only. The reality is that there are a few here that will not give up control of "their" website. I even get PM's from mods that say things such as: :"You can't do that in MY forum" As if they are the owners and I am here by their graces. Then, they allow one person's fears, ONE PERSON!!!!, to determine a course of action. Disgraceful.

PEACE  With respect to fryingbacon, and all who aren't happy about the changing of the thread title (which includes me), this has nothing to do with your first amendment rights. If RC.com were a government-run institution, publicly-funded or if you were required by law to participate, then you would have a legitimate beef in the regard. Nobody's rights have in anyway been violated. I'll also point out that the original post is excellent on its own merits, irregardless of its title.

Well, I just checked back in with the thread in question and it looks like its turned into yet another flaming trash pit. Hooray. For anyone who is just joining us and wants to know what we're all talking about the thread is entitled Confession of Fear. It used to be called Masturbation in a Whorehouse. Don't bother reading past page 2, unless you want to watch as actual RC.com users masturbate virtually in a virtual whorehouse.

A few thoughts: 1) It was wrong to change the thread title for a number of reasons. First, neither word "masturbating" or "whorehouse" are vulgar words. Both appear in the American Heritage College Dictionary. 2) Also, changing the name of a thread makes it harder to find the thing, for those that were following it. 3) If you think anyone here cares about your or my objections to this action, you are delusional. In reply to: So... who caused the title to be changed and why? DMT I wish I could share with you folks the banal and inspipid string of PM's I received. Suffice it to say, they were stretching credibilty, ansd were hilarious in their illogic, but in the end rely on the same old leverage. It is our world and you must accept our rules. Funny though that their companion Rock & Ice, uses similar and even more profane language yet has a much larger base of readers. It is always about people being uncomforatble with sexuality. Period.
